Been having a few power woe's with my hw30 of late. Bought a WW kit and also a britseal for the piston. Gun is new, so no other worn bits to think of. Before any fettling at all, it was producing a healthy 8.5fpe with HN FTT .22. with both new items installed, the best I could manage was 5.5fpe. shot cycle was nice and smooth, no dieseling etc. decided to re-fit the factory spring and guide today to see if that cured it... 6.5fpe. so by removing the WW kit, it gained 1ftlb, but still 2ftlb below when it was completely standard.
In anyone's experience, do Britseals have a break in period? It shoots lovely, and it doesn't feel like there are any issues. I put a britseal in my pro sport and it immediately gained 1ftlb. Sadly, I misplaced the factory hw piston seal so I could try with that.
Any thoughts or help appreciated 👍

Britseals don't usually require any running in as they are sized quite close to the compression tube, your tube may be on the large side in which case a Vortek seal would be a better fit, try putting your thumb over the transfer port and see if you have compression when you let the piston drop under its own weight. Alternatively the seal may be too tight, take your thumb of the transfer port the piston should drop to the bottom of the compression tube under its own weight or with a little encouragement but should not require much force.

My 30 has the standard spring, a resized HW95 guide, a quite snug piston sleeve and a Britseal. The seal is tighter in the bore than the original and there was no way that it will drop under it’s own weight. With all that damping I was prepared to sacrifice some ftlb for a smooth and quiet shot cycle.
Surprisingly it gives almost the same power as it did before the tune. Around 7.5ftlb.

I think I'll run a few pellets through it and see if it beds in at all. Trouble is, since tinkering it started to gall terribly. I've loosened up the cocking arm and it moves freely, but you can feel the grating when cocking. It galled before from new, but you never felt it 😐

Mine also galled very badly from new. I fitted a Delrin strip in the arm which cured most of it but the shoe was bad too. Needed a lot of fettling before it stopped picking up in the slot.

It’s where it’s at mate. Never known a 30 to do 8.5fpe new out the box so I would presume it was dieseling before with the factory grease getting in front of the factory seal - nothing new there.

But answer to your question 99.999999% of the time no bedding in.

HW30’s are half power (6fpe) rifles so I’d leave as is mate.

Oh, I beg to differ, Mike. An HW 30 is quite capable of outputs in excess of 8 ft. lbs. ...
Mine does, quite comfortably , in .177 caliber, shooting JSB RS / Accuracy plus & currently 7.9 ft. lbs. with JSB Express 7.9s.

Capable yes, but not new out of the box unless they’re dieseling

Out the box in the UK they are max 7fpe (unless dieselling)

I have one here at 9fpe with a prototype seal 😉

Straight out of the box my 30 was 7ftlb with Hobbys and between 6.1 and 6.5 with others. In .22. So you are spot on.

I have a 25mm Weihrauch parachute piston seal in my parts box. If you want it I'll stick it in the post for you? A bit grubby but no nicks or damage.

Really kind offer Mark, thank you. I've got a 25mm replacement on order already so I'll see how it goes 👍
