I've just read thread that described a rifle as "boringly accurate, like a PCP"...

Putting aside the whole argument of springer Vs PCP... Is there such a thing as "boringly accurate"?

I would argue No, there isn't...as if you can hit all your targets each time then either make the target smaller or put it further away and if you're a hunter - would you ever want to put shots off target?

Anything else is the shooter simply being unambitious 🤷

Personally I think all this boringly accurate isB.S , at the end of the day it's what we the shooters demand and expect . Most tuning work is carried out to try and gain a nicer shot cycle to improve accuracy . Plus you can always make it harder by shooting smaller targets at long ranges ect . Or get your backside off a bench and shoot freehand .

Some guns do need a distance to be interesting, I seldom shoot my 25 PCP at anything less then 40 meters, preferebly 50 meters.

Its still enjoyable to shoot at 15-40 meters too, but then I use a 8 or 12 fpe rifle instead.

Or try bench rest at proper targets - taking a 2mm target out at 25 yards ain't as simple as many think it is...🤣

I have heard lots of people say this over the years at the range, my usual response is to try it standing… that usually shuts them up

Was going to say the same 👍

The gun itself should be 'boringly' accurate if it's any good. It's people sitting them on rests both front and rear and almost locking the gun down that takes the fun out of it.

If it's boring, it's the shooters fault, not the guns.

I have yet to hear anyone say their gun is so inaccurate it's great fun to shoot.

I have heard this said and don't agree its possible, unless you aren't challenging yourself.
If all you try to do is hit cans or 1 inch target circles at 25m using a redwolf or similar with a 10-40 scope then yes will get boring very fast. Equally using a 75 year old break barrel with iron sights for the same thing not so boring!

I understand what folks mean by the phrase ie it is easy and repeatable to shoot accurately. Having said this i dont find that 'boring', infact that is what I aim for (pun intended) in a hunting rig. For plinking and targets it is fun to shoot springers or difficult guns but if im hunting i want boring every day of the week

I never get bored when hitting what I'm aiming at.

I do get bored very quickly if I'm not hitting what I'm aiming at.

Obviously it's not as much fun plinking at 20 to 30m unless the targets are small which is why I favour ranges of 50m to 100m for plinking.

Hunting different again and I usually only go to a max of 20m to 25m if I can help it as obviously I always want to be 100% (boringly) accurate there.

We used to congratulate each other at my old club for getting tight groups at 30 yards, typically every hole touching with 10 shots, but when I tried to shoot 25 metre bench rest the best I ever got was 237 so to say it's boringly easy is nonsense.

Sooooooo frustrating……I dread to imagine how many hours I’ve practiced and never achieved better than a 247 …taking a break now hft offers a new set of challenges….no doubt after another year shooting 8 hours a week I’ll still be crap 😩

I've got a couple of match rifles that are very boringly accurate and consistent, but I put a spanner in their works. I brought them and shoot them which soon put an end to that Shrug tt :censored:

In my world there is no such thing as "boringly accurate", but I have heard the phrase a few times.
Supreme accuracy is, after all, what most of us strive to achieve... and hitting what you're aiming at never gets old. :)

I am waiting to see if any rifles being offered for sale have boringly accurate in the sales description.

Boring and accurate?
Yes, this can be the case.
(PCPs - going by my tastes)

"Boringly accurate"
Meaning what?
That it hits where it is aimed?
Is that not sort of the point of shooting?

Boringly inaccurate?
Lots of these from my first GAT pistol onwards - many of them could have been rectified, no doubt.

Not boring and accurate?
Now we are talking!
Some of my Springers etc definitely come into this category.

Lots of people use phrases without any thought......

"Boringly reliable" vehicles like cars and bikes?
I have had my fill of "boringly unreliable" cars and bikes - nothing exciting about breaking down!
Wondering whether I will make it home?
Not my kind of "excitement" thank you.

If your hobby is boring then you are doing something seriously wrong, I reckon.
