Benchrest / Target shooting disappointment

I went down the range twice this week, Friday I was there 4 hours. Mind you I recon 3 hours was spent talking rubbish with some of the other guys there.

Just starting to shoot bench rest, t50i will be on my shopping list.

Ps. You didn’t think the economy ll would be good at 25 yards did you? 😂
4 hrs...wow 😲

The scope is brilliant but using anything over 12x mag was both strange and disconcerting.

Wanted to try as many pellets as possible so wasn't sure until I tried them. Must say that testing pellets was also a ball ache 🥴

I love Benchrest and shoot off a bipod with rear bag no co axial or mechanical aids using my hand under the stock to do minor movements and steady the rifle. I score a 250 regularly with 19x,s being my best I have never shot outside and don’t want to go ratting or bird shooting, but each to his own. Only took up shooting about 18 months ago
what gun do you use

Ive just bought a T50i but had to order mounts 34mm adjustable for dovetails are rare it seems.......not got a delivery yet........

It's a learning curve embrace the journey 👍

I enjoy my benchrest shooting out in the open. There are some members of my club who shoot the same competitions but won't shoot if there's any more than an occasional puff of wind. I rarely win the competitions which they invariably do but there is so much moaning goes on when a breeze picks up that they just don't seem to get the same satisfaction I do.
Maybe I'm just not as competitive as they are but out in the open I can watch buzzards and red kites, be tempted but not dare shoot the squizzers, and as summer progresses take care not to shoot the birds that swoop down and along the range.
Perhaps the OP's range/club is not the right one for him; hopefully somewhere there'll be an open range where he can get as much satisfaction as he does sitting for hours not taking a shot.
What is it they say "Act in haste, repent at leisure" Try further afield for the right range for you.
Good luck,
Jim

Hft 500 with sentinel x scope bipod is a very solid one made by a club member and rear bag is a promotors 14b

Having retired some years ago and having so much free time on my hands, I really needed to find something new try out. I've only ever really used air rifles for hunting but recently I'd been spending more time at a local shooting range just setting up my scopes and night vision along with a little plinking so I started putting out some targets and I found it quite enjoyable.

Well I've never been one to do things by half so decided I'd give 25m benchrest a go. Well a week or so later I was the proud owner of a new RAW TM1000 and Falcon T50i plus set up along with a load of other bits and headed down the range to do some pellet testing. An hour later I was packing up and putting everything away as I'd had enough. I've been down twice since and both times felt the same, coming away after an hour or so again underwhelmed.

Contrast this to when I go out in the field and can spend hours on end, sometimes not even taking a shot but feel great just watching and listening to my surroundings as the world just passes by.

Am I strange or does anyone else ever feel this way?

P.S. keep you eyes peeled for some decent benchrest gear popping up in the sales section in the near future 🤣.
Try it with a springer! NSRA hold, much more engaging and satisfying.

I’ll swap you my TX200 benchrest rig for your RAW TM1000. You’ll love it. I’ll miss the TX, but I’d be willing to make the sacrifice for your shooting enjoyment…. :)

I shoot a 30 peg course every Tuesday, I like the walk around being out in the woods. Sitting at a bench is fine for me for an hour or so but I get restless. I’d love a permission though.

hft500 seems the most popular. Mine is just a 510 carbine....thinking about an HFT but thought Id try the better scope first.....probably the wrong way round but the opportunity popped up. My mate has a few grands worth of Daystate and shoots 250 regularly and 23 to 25 xs but he is more into it than myself.

I’m a bit the same even plinking in the garden. Once a gun is set up and zeroed I’ll mess about with some resettable targets and spinners etc to check everything is bang on, but take regular breaks and after half an hour I’m bored.

I’d happily sit under a tree for two hours and not fire a shot whilst out hunting, though.

You edited that fast 😂

I really enjoy paper punching and bench‑rest shooting because it’s basically me battling… me. Every time I drop a point, I know exactly who to blame, and that just makes me even more determined to claw those points back. And if I happen to beat someone else’s score along the way, well, that’s just a lovely little bonus.

I’m currently shooting an Epic Two with a 550 mm barrel and a Falcon T50i. And honestly, if I’m out for four hours, there’s a good chance I’ll spend at least three of them chatting and drinking far too much coffee. At this point, I’m not sure if I’m a shooter who likes coffee or a coffee addict who occasionally shoots

Which range do you shoot at?

That's why you enjoy your bench rest shooting, because of all the challenges that outside presents. Your like me shooting against yourself to improve your technical capabilities.

In the last 6 months I have started shooting Prewar rifles, 6yrd paper punching and bell target, which I have really got a lot of enjoyment from, it sounds easy, but it really isn't, and my shooting has really improved quite rapidly.

As much as I'd like to spend hours in the field, sometimes not even taking a shot:
1. I don't have a permission
2. Even if I did, the physicality would present an insurmountable challenge

Shooting off a bench, whether it's plinking or benchrest, enables me to shoot and continue enjoying the sport.

To each their own.
