Barnett Crossbow memories.

I like the non-standard additions & tweaks!
I couldn't find a foot stirrup or goats foot lever so made one from mild steel .I've since got the stirrup and an unused goatsfoot but prefer my diy version .

Took me ages to locate a Barnet made goatsfoot then I found a 2nd one within about a week.

My medieval crossbows use a much heavier design...or are just about capable of being drawn by hand.
Missed out on he one which had the windlass gizmo - but that was about 1100lb draw weight!!

I think of I bought another crossbow now it would be something from Todd Cutler .Heakes an impressive range of medieval bows .Though you do pay for the quality .

My medieval crossbows are from him, but via a previous owner...or at least they're close enough in appearance to be outright copies!
Very good fun to use. I'm presently getting the kit together to allow me to make bolt/quarrel shafts from (suitable) plain lumber, which I can then fit out as required.

I seem to remember a particular Barnett ad with a blonde in not much camo and a military helmet looking a bit sweaty😁

Oh of course Lewis Collins but he didn’t have the same appeal to a teenage lad..

I have a Commando but rarely use the thing as it’s bloody lethal and frankly scares me a little 😆

I have the same one, never gets used and is dismantled in the loft

Another project Barnett (Wildcat) arrived today. Some damage to the stock and a chunk missing from the recoil pad, plus the odd screw or three....and the prod! Will be set aside with the others for now.
The 2 crossbows with it are gonna be fun to work on too, esp. the one with maker markings - Jack the Yeoman, of London

There was a Mk1 Wildcat sold on ebay this week for £95, missing the prod and string, overpriced or about the right price?

Depends on condition but for me that's not bad for a MK1 wildcat .As long as the stock wasn't cracked or the trigger sear bent id probably pay that . Replacement prods and strings are cheap enough .

I was going to bid on it but that was a bit much on an unknown item. As I said in the OP, the plans to make one from scratch used to be available, can't believe no one has ever scanned and uploaded them, but looks like I may have to make it up as I go

Well sell it to me then

Well sell it to me then
A neighbour had an early TX200 a few years ago, he never used it and I kept pestering him to sell me it.In the end I gave up. A couple of years went by and I asked about it. "Oh, I gave it to thingy down the road". He gave it away!!!!! Clueless.
