The Australian government is to offer gun owners money to buy their guns from them!

So what income that's not taxpayer money has the Australian government suddenly gotten hold of?
Because if it is tax payer money then aussie gun owners are just buying their own guns from themselves and giving them to someone else!

Only people this will affect is law abiding gun owners , criminals or people with bad intentions will still get hold of a gun regardless of this cash for guns . It's just smoke and mirrors for the general public minions .
Exactly, the minority getting priority, yet again - with the law abiding citizens paying the price & bearing the consequences.

Couldn’t imagine our government being that accommodating 😡

There is a lot of anger amongst Australians following conversion with a friend who lives over there
given the son was known to the authorities and his father was allowed to own guns

Its almost like they are trying to sweep that bit under the carpet. Son was investigated for links to islamic state, but dad was allowed to own guns. That was the police / governments major **** up, but instead lets use it as a way to demonise legal gun ownership, and bring in stricter laws.
One of the even more worrying reforms is removing the ability to appeal the police decision to remove your guns.

I'm not supporting this knee jerk buy-back, but the murdering father was a law abiding gun owner...until he wasn't. Criminals MAY get hold of a gun still, but there will be fewer to get a hold of.

Presumably it will be similar to the car scrappage scheme, it seems fair enough, better than an outright ban, the world is changing and their are a lot of angry hate filled men about and some nefarious internet sites and their owners are deliberately geeing them along, any decent administration has to act or else they will be accused all over the internet for not doing enough, its a fine line that is walked these days,
the Oz government has just brought in the social media ban for kids of an impressionable age, we should follow suit,

So why not do something about the source of that rather than legal guns?
To me it's a simple sum
Nutter + gun = bad outcome.

If you get rid of the guns you've still got the nutter, free to pick up any other implement and do their worst, still being fed hate by the source.

It’s exactly what our government did with the pistol ban after dunblain. Anyone who had firearm pistols handed them in and they were valued and got the money. The values were reasonable considering the circumstances but nothing was given for ammo or other kit

Our Government has paid for people to hand in Guns numerous times . The last one cost the tax payer 4 times what the projected it would cost .

When they removed the Handguns .

The final cost of the UK handgun ban was officially estimated by the National Audit Office to be approximately
£95 million. This figure covers compensation for surrendered firearms and ammunition, as well as associated administrative costs.

The total cost was composed of:

  • £87 million in compensation payments to individuals and registered dealers for 165,353 licensed handguns and 700 tonnes of ammunition.
  • £8 million in administrative costs, which included special grants to police forces for managing the surrender process.
Initial estimates had varied, with some Home Office officials suggesting figures up to £150 million, but the final reported amount was lower. The compensation scheme, implemented in two phases for different calibre handguns following the Firearms (Amendment) Acts of 1997, aimed to provide market value for the prohibited weapons and ancillary equipment.

If only it were that easy, though. The nutter wasn't a nutter until he was. Up to that moment, he passed all the checks and was a legal, non nutter gun owner. Then he wasn't. We're not quite into into minority report teritory yet.

The only people who'd take up the offer are law abiding. As if the bag guys are gonna turn their guns in FFS.
The world's run by idiots.
