Morning all,

So after my ATec Wave mishap on my .22WMR, ( my fault for not looking into it sufficiently) ive now bought the same companies CMM6, a slim modular mod, with its screw on base and up to six screw on baffle sections, rated up to .22 Hornet.

You can use the base and one, or as many as you like, to match your specific requirements.

Interesting, yet to test it, I suspect all 6 will over gas my Win-mag AR and I'll probably end up using 4.

I will report back on findings.

As for the wave, well, lets just say they certainly arn't what they were, looking at my mates old robust and stripperble example in the US.

The new ones have a fragile composite baffle that appears to be glued into the base. My mum used to pack my school sandwichs better than that quite frankly!!

Mine is now fixed in a far more robust way, with the baffle unit permanently bonded in, suitable for .22lr, however as stripping is impossible, its a life limited unit, carbon build up will likely kill it before too long.

What's your take on sound level on Wave? They claim a rather big dB reduction for a simple monocore unit.

I have no personal experience of the Wave, but it is widely reported on many forums that they are an improvement over a SAK when using subsonic ammo.

I cant really comment on its sound reduction, as I never used subsonic ammunition with it.

I do have a box of subs and will try it on my Tippmenn M4 at some point.

My main reason for me buying a moderator is to gas up my Winmag build for more reliable operation.

It's the same with the SAK + HMR combo - the HMR will gas cut the baffle on the moderator under prolonged use

The CMM-6 is 'extremely' robust, solid construction and rated to CF .22 Hornet.

I'm looking forward to testing various lengths on my winmag retro AR on Wednesday, I should 'theoretically' be able hit just the right gassing up point without burning my eyebrows off!

Starting with 4 modules, I'm pretty sure all 6 will over gas the rifle too much...

A steel insert for the first "baffle" would help a lot. Most CF hunting silencers are made of anodized aluminium like SAK but the first (or first few) baffle has steel insert to take the hot muzzle blast.

Indeed, the HMR is a hot little number, and the sharp edges on the ally SAK baffle are not conducive to a long life - the SAK baffle will even weld itself shut with LR ammunition if it is not maintained occasionally.

Few quick pics of the CMM-6 if anyone isn't familiar with it, very slim and very well made.

It will be interesting to see the difference made with different numbers of baffles.
