Thinking of purchasing a Katran compact with a bottle. Just wondering if anyone has one and can advise what they’re a like.

Looked on YouTube but everyone is sponsored and circa £1300 is a lot of money to part with. I’ll be buying a .177.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Have a search in this topic as there's a dedicated Airmaks thread and plenty of Katran threads.

Had a look through a lot of reviews on here and YouTube. Little concerned over accuracy, some say great others having problems. If I’m going to pay Circa £1300 I expect it to shoot well at 40yds. Both my HW100, S510R are capable of 10mm groups indoor of bags and my prosport and tuned 98 are not far behind. Some of the groups on YouTube aren’t great. Hoping someone on here can tell me different and it’s just user error or incorrect pellet testing.

Only pushing for advise as I need something that doesn’t take up to much room in my campervan and the bottle shot count would be ideal.

If anyone can advise something else, please do. Requirements are good shot count, space saving and 177.

I have had one. It was a lovely, well build gun and quite accurate. The only thing I found is it was very hold sensitive, if I would slightly adjust my grip or how I was holding the gun it would have an affect on the POI. Mine was .177.

Many on here are happy with their Katrans, if you use the search function you will find plenty of info 👍

I have 2 katrans one a olive full length and a carbine one . Both are cylinder not bottle. There spot on rifles can't fault them.

Thanks Martin, like the cylinder more but not taking a dive bottle in my camper, so bottle it is.

Is it pellet fussy??

So this is my Katran. It’s mega. However, it’s not without its drawbacks (or quirks) depending on how you look at it.

It shot little finger nail groups out to 45 yards. Although there is some recoil, shot count not great and is hold sensitive.

The recoil is nothing like a springer but it’s not a dead shot if that makes sense. Couple that with the hold sensitivity and it can really throw you off. That being said if you’re aware of these things you can compensate. As such, the 45yard groups. The shot count isn’t massive at all. I’d say around 60 shots per fill. Fine for me but some might not like it.

It’s incredibly light and threw me off picking it up for the first time but again once you’re used to it it’s fine.

The trigger isn’t fantastic out of the box. Needs some adjustment. Personally I’d recommend the adjustable match type trigger. It doesn’t make it a true match grade trigger like a Steyr but it improves shooter consistency.

The cocking mechanism is good, and as long as it’s not too stiff (sub12airgunner did a fix for this) you can easily go through a full mag only moving one finger from shooting off a bench.

The butt isn’t that stable. It’s quite poor to be honest for me. I found the low profile of it made it uncomfortable to shoulder. I upgraded to the adjustable again which is miles better.

When it comes to the mags I’ve heard a lot of bad reports but I think new mags are fixed with no problems now.

Muzzle report is very loud. Given the short barrel there is quite a bark. I’ve got a hugger atom on mine and it is still quite loud in comparison to my hw100.

Generally speaking I love the thing. One of my favourite guns to shoot.

I have a Katran CB in .177, (bottle version) and the sub-compact in .22.

As far as I know the sub-compact is only available with a cylinder.

Both are fantastic, they are my go to for any pest control, along with the .25 Caiman-X.

Worth every penny.

Thanks guys, it’s going to be the compact bottle for the shot count. I’ll order Wednesday from Neath gun shop and let you all know how I get on with it.

Paul

Well chuffed with my Katran CB .accurate yes so much so I'm now shooting the cocktail sticks rather than the plaster robots at 25m

I've had the same experience with mine but in .22. I also found it a bit nose heavy with the standard folding stock when shooting standing but it felt a bit better balanced with a walnut thumbhole stock bolted on instead.

Oh and you will certainly need a moderator on it.

Now you mention it, it was a bit front heavy. I like the look of the wooden stocks but fitting one would have taken away the foldability which was one of the reasons I bought it. I had a small Huggett silencer on mine (trying to keep it compact as possible) but it still had somewhat of a crack to it.

I actually went for the Krait Lite in the end. Shoots exceptionally well with Barra 8s and Shorts. Consistently hitting .177 pellets at 38 yards. I always use this as a test of accuracy, literally pellet on pellet lol.

First time away from HW and AA. Albeit been shooting it to often and my springer accuracy has gone out the window. Although I don’t hunt anymore, I’d class this as an excellent hunting tool.
