Just got home with some new projects acquired from a friend. Quite an eclectic mix but all very welcome additions to the fold here. Shame they weren’t stored more kindly as some need a lot of work, some not quite so much, but all seem to bend in the right places and move in the correct directions. Good job I’m not afraid of a bit of elbow grease and love a challenge eh. I was gobsmacked when I tested the tap on the Imp D and it held for a respectable time..
Just need to find time now to hide away in the gun room and get started, but which goes to the top of the list?????

The Improved Model D would be my choice and is possibly the easiest of the bunch to work on.

I'd be interested in whether the cutouts on the stock for the aperture sight are factory or made by a previous owner. If factory, that could be an interesting piece once restored.

Evening Mr M. First off my compliments and thanks for your publication, it has taught ( and still is teaching ) me a lot.

I believe the only way to tell if the sight was factory fitted , without having access to the ledgers/records , is the quality of the workmanship in the cuts??? I’m nowhere near knowledgeable enough nor have the experience to tell so have attached a couple of pix for those with an eye to judge…….

When they’re done they make a nice group. It’s quite interesting to see the Mk1 and Mk2 Khamsin stocks side by side, not sure which I like the best……dom

FWB 300s. Will be interesting to work on this one as I had a FWB65 pistol a few years back which I serviced myself, so wondering if it’s just a scaled up version??
They work on the same principle, and being a rifle, if anything are easier to work on than the pistols

For me personally I liker the look of the Khamsin Mk1 stock as it is different to most of the era, the Mk2 looks a bit more of a generic thumbhole style stock.

Thanks for the kind words.

I'm better at the historical aspect of our hobby than the technical but those cuts look 'right' at first glance, albeit some edges are slightly rounded. Not many factory cut stocks have survived and this one is certainly worth restoring. Even if the cuts were made post sale, they appear to have been done well.

A very nice find!

It always interests me when I see these sights fixed and the cuts to the stock,my early post war standard has had a cut in this part of the stock,it is a straight cut.I have thought that it once had a similar sight fitted but then very nicely shaped to accept a fillet of walnut when the sight was removed for whatever reason. The rifle pictured looks very nice and would say it would be a great restoration project.
