2,000 pigeons shot with rifles at railway stations

Many pest problems at railways are ignored , my local station earlestown one of the oldest in the world is inundated with rats , before anyone asks i spent many a very early morning waiting for trains while disease filled rodents moved in and out of the brickwork and drains of an aged building. Only when you can prove a health problem is money spent , when prompt dealing with the problem sorts it out . With Rats you can put down bait boxes and cause the rat to die slowly and painfully while bait put out for pigeons would kill birds as well. The lesson is that thes moaners would rather see animals suffer than be humanly killed.

My brother works at a station in South London as a supervisor. His office is pretty much next to where all the big paladin bins are. Place is running alive with rats and they do next to nothing about it. I said maybe don't over fill the bins and then close the lids. He said yeah but some weeks they don't even turn up to empty them. So a problem that is caused by the people who complain there are too many rats.

He did ask to borrow my Impact so he could shoot them. You can guess what 2 word answer he got. I would gladly go and do it if all sorted the right way but there are just too many people about even at 3 or 4 in the morning.

Funnily enough, I was talking to a relative in Newcastle this morning who recounted a tale of one of my grandsons going with her to shop in the centre of town last week. He is seven, and they went into a rather fine indoor market called the Grainger Market which has all kinds of rather nice food outlets, some are cafe type places and others are selling deli type foods.



So young fellah excitedly points out to his gran that there are pigeons flying about inside the building and roosting up in the roof. They look about and are offered some food at one of the stalls as a taster. Young fellah then exclaims in a loud clear voice,

'No thank you. These pigeons might have pooed on it as they are flying about'.

Poor stall lady points out that she has the food covered, and she has, but the problem is absolutely obvious, even to a child.

Of course, in a building like this with a glass roof, it would have a problem to try to get these birds effectively with an air rifle.

When I said this, my relative said that they play raptor calls in there and she has heard they bring in falconers at night to catch the birds. This must cost serious money really, because as fast as you clear them out, they will replenish themselves from the large number of birds there are flapping about the open spaces in the town, some of them being fed by idiots who bring bags of corn and chuck about unwanted food.
