17 hmr split necks

I see lines where they are going to split
And about 50 % are split after firing.
No accuracy difference.
No squib so far
Occasionally failure to extract but that's usually if I'm trying to hand catch the case .
I must try to give the chamber a 'buff'

It’s splitting due to pressure it’s the round not the rifle

Split cases after firing are a normal part of shooting this cartridge. If you find split necks before loading I would suggest discarding them safely. As I understand it there are about 3 manufactures of HMR ammo and CCI loads for most, they apparently load different powder and powder loads according to their customers recipe/requirements and cartridge headstamps. Not heard of any rifle damage with this cartridge for a long while now and is available for use in semi auto rifles in the states but not heard of it on this side of the pond as yet, though the semi auto 22 magnum is now available over here on your normal FAC. This is the most powerful rimfire rifle you can legally own. A couple have appeared at my club and the guys are having a ball with them, both target and fox shooting.

I rid my HMR in favour of the WMR when 3 people I knew had the round in the barrel after a then unknown false discharge due to the propellant getting damp entirely through or because of the cracked case

When I had a HMR I checked every case prior to going out until I used them all

If your a serious rabbit shooter the centre fire .17 is a phenomenal rabbit rifle accurate out further than you want to shoot very quiet and extensive range exceptional rabbit gun 👍

I still do it now

The .17 Rem. has always appealed to me, but ive never owned one.
An RFD i spoke to at Bisley one year told me that he used to shoot Crows at silly distances with his own home loads, and you could literally see the puff of feathers through the scope on impact because the recoil is so minimal.
The .17 Hornet is no slouch either, and a lot easier on barrels obviously.

17hmr semi autos aren't legal in this country. Only 22s. So 22Lr and 22wmr in practical terms (I guess 22 short/long etc also in theory).

Actually the 17wsm is the most powerful rim fire.

Not trying to argue or contradict your post which I agree with!

Thank you t-sat, you are correct, I had forgotten that cartridge.
