I know this topic has been discussed before, but I'm curious to hear your thoughts and experiences on pellet sizing and weighing. Do you size or weigh your pellets, and if so, what are your reasons behind it?

For those who do size their pellets, I'm interested in knowing what device or method you use for sizing. Has it made a noticeable difference in accuracy or consistency?

As a relatively knowledgeable gun enthusiast, I find myself on the fence about whether to invest in pellet sizing and weighing. I'd greatly appreciate hearing your perspectives and insights, as it might help me make an informed decision.

Thanks

High level competition shooting yes, but everyday plinking or pest control, don't waste your time. Any slightly larger or misshapen pellets are 'automatically' sized when loaded.

If I still wish to size the pellets, can you recommend a reliable pellet sizer?

Tried it, worn the T shirt, moved on, life's too short!
If you a serious competition shooter, (or very OCD about your pellets), then the small gains will be worth it, but for most of us, it will make little difference to our shooting.
Just my 2c worth... (y)

Even if washing, weighing and sizing do NOT give you any real gains (THEY DOI!), the knowledge that you have prepared to the best of your ability will increase your confidence-and your scores.
Competition shooting is at least 50% mental preparation.

I remember being lectured by a total "Windbag" at a national shoot, who had overheard me telling another competitor about my pellet prep. He was deriding me and saying sh*t like: "Waste of time", "no benefit", "you obviously have too much time on your hands" etc, etc, etc.
I asked him how he had scored that day? "Oh yes, 52-very pleased and with pellets STRAIGHT OUT OF THE TIN! How did you do with your magic pellets?"
"60." I could hear the others pi**ing themselves with laughter, as I walked away.....

This is worth alook Dude might shock a few

Just wash and lube, don't know why really 😅😅
As its probably all ball cocks

For hunting I'll sort, inspecting for any damage and weigh.

I find it's more important with softer lead pellets such as JSB and rebranded derivatives. Especially as JSB QC is so poor atm.

There are harder pellets that have more consistent weights and less prone to damage, that can be inspected as loaded.

Why? To take one variable out the outdoor hunting equation and where a well placed shot is needed to respect the quarry and humane despatch.

Tried it, got 2 sets of cheap scales, both gave inconsistent readings, gave up. Now shoot from the tin.
If I could get a consistent set of scales I would try again. Thought about getting some counter balance scales.

I used an old jewellers scale for years. Dint know how accurate it was, didn't matter as long as all pellets weighed the same.

Last year got a set of 'Pellet Scale' scales (y)

I've weighed a few times, each time I've had good results,, then found a pellet that seemed to work from the tin and carried along with them, latest effort included weighing and sizing qys streamlined heavys 4.50
5 shot groups, diopter sights at 15yds rested out of the tin

Weighing produced 3 distinct weights, the majority being mid weighted, so used these going forwards, flyer on the left target was me, so six at this one

Then various die sizes

I've found that doing this has improved accuracy, mid 240s now rather than high 230s/low 240s and increases the number of Xs by at least double (4.52 die)
This is the sizer I use and it's pretty quick to use

For target shooting like bench rest, where 1mm can mean a point dropped, it's worth the effort if it floats your boat chasing scores (it does for me) not so sure it's that important for other disciplines, but weighing into size groups should increase consistency/reduce flyers for all disciplines., just a quick zero adjust for each weight group

In my experience pellet sizing was decent for straightening out of shape skirts but overall just weighing was good enough for tighter groups.

I noticed using the pellet sizer it didn't shave the skirt equally all the way around sometimes so IMO not needed.

Nope, can’t be doing with all that nonsense just to achieve a mm or two better groupings 🙄
Never washed/weighed/graded/lubed etc in my life ….. just open the tin and use 👍🏻

Could you please share the name or brand of the sizer you use? Thanks
