On Test - BSA Superstar

I have written BSA several times with no response at all.
Ha I was just thinking. No idea why I hadn’t thought of this before. Since my thinking about decocking is to take the pressure off the spring if cocked for long periods why not do this?

Put the safety on
Pull the cocking lever down enough to open the loading port and load a pellet but not enough to cock the rifle.
Load the pellet and close the port
Return the lever

The rifle is now decocked and ready to be cocked and shot with minimal spring tension time.

That would in effect be decocked with a pellet at the ready by only cocking the lever. Same effect on the spring as decocking. Only disadvantage is if I cocked and I decided not to take the shot i would have to shoot it out at some point to decock and the rifle. I think that would work for me. At least it would limit the time the rifle was cocked to a minimum while hunting.
Anyone see any disadvantages to this method?
Nope. Hunting; is just that. "Spot & Stalk"..use a good pair of binos to spot quarry at distance, once spotted, cock loaded rifle & begin your stalking. If " Still Hunting" ( carefully, slowly, deliberately moving through cover/ surroundings, where a shot may present itself at any moment) leave rifle cocked & ready. If " On Station" ( hide hunting/ ambush) - cock on as needed basis.

Yeah picked mine up again today after shooting another rife. Haven't shot my springers in a while and it shows. Got the R9 pretty close but the BSA needs more work. Only shot maybe a half dozen shots. Really just wanted to see if she still worked. lol. The other problem is the scope. It needs a new one for sure. What weight pellets seem to work the best in the .22 BSA? Also what pellets are you guys using? I did change the scope out this afternoon. Hope to shoot her again tomorrow

Thanks

Well took the .22 SuperStar out this morning .Changed out the scope last night. I was just resting on a bag with my hand between the rifle and the bag. No rear bag support. As close to a hunting condition as I can get. Anyway the center group was just before my final adjustment. This is at 25 yards using 14.3 Crosman Hollow points!! I first just shot for groups and was going to pick the best pellet but these shot so well I just went with them. Never tested any other pellets. Other than the few shots I fired yesterday I probably haven't shot it in well over 20 years. Smooth as butter with no twang . Kinda hard to believe. Tell ya one thing she won't sit for another 20 years. LOL Final sight in is the upper left.
