Hi. A guy I know is now selling his Weihrauch and asked me if I was interested. It's been in his family for years (his father owned it).
It's been stored in the loft wrapped in sheepskin and apparently is immaculate.
It hasn't been serviced obviously, but sounds like a good one.
Does anybody have an idea where we should start at for a price?
Thanks in advance for any info that may come my way.

In the loft means it’s likely been exposed to high and low temperatures. Humidity will have been high too.

Check it for signs of rust. Stock off and properly examine it. Rod the barrel and look for rust in there.

If it’s in good condition probably £400. If it’s rusted to death £10 for parts.

He is very particular so it may be interesting trying to persuade him to let me take parts off it.
I'll have a proper look at it next week.

£400s far too much, even for a minter

How much would a good going over/service cost if this is in good condition. Bearing in mind it has sat for what sounds like decades?

If there’s no rust and such you’ll likely just want to get it open and clean the gunk out. Replace the spring, relube, etc.

You can message @Tinbum about one of his kits. Personally I’d do the maxi pro kit but that’s up to you. Then it’s just an hour with some punches and a hammer. Though if it is really old it might be 25mm rather than 26mm. So might not need the short stroke extension. Someone who knows older rifles will be able to help figure that out.

If it’s been decades I can see the value dropping on it. Assume you will spend £100-150 to get it right. So probably closer to £300 for the rifle.

If you’re not comfortable doing the job (I wasn’t sure but give it a go and it was easy enough) then they might be able to do it for you.

Older HW77s with the 25mm piston are very desirable - if a bit "niche."

Have a good look at it, especially for rust of it has been left in a loft.

If it is presentable, cocks and shoots then maybe £150 to £200 minimum if "mates rates."

The idea of £10 for parts is daft - unless you want to rip them off.
Early HW piston and compression tube would be £100 minimum to sell.
Stock, even tatty is upwards of £50
Main action and trigger £100.

But please don't break it just to make a few quid - I reckon they are a genuine "Classic."

Watch TbT Tuning videos on YouTube to see what is involved in a strip down.
Nick aka @Tinbum is a member on here, very helpful and good "tuning" kits at modest prices.

Thankyou. That's just what i was looking for!
I have old motorcycles and am fine with stripping them down and rebuilding them, so I'm used to getting my hands dirty.

If i take a homemade pull through with me would that be suitable to check the barrel

If its a early one in mint condition. 300 to 350 .
ignore the new prices there ridiculous. take your time to look over it . dropping the action out of the stock is a must . ive seen so many that look mint till the stock off and it has more rust than the titanic on its hull .
ps . the barrel should have a lead coat inside . folks were lazy back then and never cleaned barrels . a pull through wont hurt though .

Thankyou, more very useful information!

Photo TP with breech open to determine whether 25 or 26 mm piston bore.
The longer barrel 77 with 25 mm internals would be desirable. Not so much the 77K.
"Immaculate" and "stored in loft", do not readily combine.
£200 to £250 would be reasonable if purchased without close inspection of internals.
If opened up, expect a four leg steel spring guide, no top hat and end of spring resembling a cork screw.

A pull through cotton pad will likely show you the state of the barrel. A rusty barrel is unlikely to be worth replacing.
Nearly the price of the rifle .

unless you cut the barrel off and stick it in a four jaw and bore out the rest of the old one .
been there done that 😂🤣😂🤣 tiz a pain

Buy it! That is all…..
If it looks ok on the outside you are onto a winner, if the serial nimber starts 144### or less it is a 25mm piston and even bettererer😳

As to price, how good a friend is he? It could have cost £100 new if it was bought in the 80’s, he might think he’s had a result if he gets the same for it now. Ask him how much he wants and then let your conscience decide.

So probably back to my £10 for spares.

My original £400 was if it was a couple of years old like my 97 which is essentially the same rifle.

£300 if it’s clean unrusted with a 25mm internal.

If it’s a lump of rusty steel then you might get some bits to use on another. Unless you want a project to restore it’s basically worthless.
