Repeat Prescription. Changes

Told today pharmacy will no longer order repeat prescription, which now falls back on patient to order from GP.
A friend, with complex morbidity, requires numerous meds, whilst she continues to work full time.
Every collection resembles a McDonalds Family bucket carryout.

We are told, use pharmacist where possible, to relieve pressure on GPs.
These new rules will do the opposite.
For an older generation, less IT aware. Some without a broadband connection.
The message is clear, "Die Early".
 
What's sadder is that half of those, are probably to deal with the adverse reactions, from the first half.
Die Early is a bit bleak, as long as you do it before you can claim a pension, that should be just fine.
 
Change pharmacy ... I collect meds for my old ma and she always used Boots, but they got so bad you could queue for an hour to find it hadn't been filled despite supposedly being ready to collect for 3-4 days. This usually meant going back later as on lunch break and then queuing all over again for another 30-40 minutes.

Changed to a smaller independent which is closer to home and the surgery and average wait is 10 minutes. Much friendlier too.
 
Funny thing is, down in the smoke, its going the other way. The doctor's surgery recently told me to renew at the pharmacy

When I went yo the pharmacy they were happy to order and repeat every couple of months without prompting.
 
I use a small, independent pharmacy near me, way better than a national chain. Always helpful, find her one.

I don’t have quite so many meds, only around 6-8, all ending at different times, and having local, friendly people helps so much
 
It seems things vary from region to region - I order my meds via my GPs online portal for collection at my chosen pharmacy - which is a local family run business. Never had any issues...
 
I use pharmacy 2u. They're online - my missus set them up for me because the chemist next door to my doctors was so bad. This new mob are pretty good. They take the info, deal with my doctor then, deliver pretty quickly 🙂👍
 
I found Pharmacy2U to be excellent. I had to stop using them though, as their system requires the GP to authorise the repeat scrip, usually on line, but my new GP when I moved house refused to renew on line and insisted on using second class post, after having taken a week or more for the authorisation. All because the dispensary picks up a fee from the NHS, and the GP practice has its own dispensary in house. So instead of getting meds by email and post I have to drive three miles each way to drop a renewal slip in the box, then drive three miles there and back again five days later to collect the meds. And find a place to park, twice. Meantime Cornwall Council encourages us to be green and to avoid unnecessary car journeys.
 
I will have to check with my pharmacy they make a dosette box for me and are an independent pharmacy, my doctor's surgery refuses to make them for me even though I have memory problems, dexterity issues and have to take 25 tablets a day at 4 different times.

Same here, which is just as well, as we only have the one pharmacy in town, and they seem to be able to cope with everybody in a five mile radius. The only problem I have is one of my anti rejection meds can only come from England, so if I'm not over in Hereford for a check up, they have to bike it over to me if I run out. When I have a car/bike on the road, it's not quite so bad, as a day out in Hereford, or even a few hours mooching round to make the journey worthwhile, isn't that bad, but while I'm limited to public transport, the three hour bus trip EACH WAY just isn't worth it....
 
Mine are good as gold. Need a new scrip every month, go on the NHS app a week beforehand, place order, GP signs them off, and usually they are ready at my pharmacy of choive within 2-3 days- even get a text message telling me they are ready.
 
We have an online ordering system or you hand in the repeat prescription request forms we get each time we get our new medication in to the health centre.

You an also call it in if I remember right.
 
Order my repeat pax’s online, many which have been prescribed by hospitals but it still has to be run past a Gp at practice 🤷‍♂️. Sometimes it can take ten days or more to fulfill the order 😡

I have the same issue for my other half, half are on repeat half on request, even though she has been on them all, several years. When doctors employ a pharmacist he/she seems to dictate what and when. For those that are infirm and without help they are lost.
