Band or no band

Fooling a pipe into "thinking" it is shorter (meaning it behaves acoustically as a shorter pipe) involves changing its resonance . this can be achieved by creating new pressure nodes ie. a barrel band . the point at which it touches the pipe/barrel changes the resonance. ( same as a finger on a guitar string )
mechanically. if you support a pipe at one end you have a load at the point where its attached. long lever .
so if you put a support the barrel at 2/3rds or 3/4's that load point moves . so basically the load point has moved .the barrel thinks its shorter . and so has the finger on the guitar string .(the barrel band) which as then changed the harmonic note /wave .

try lifting a yard brush with one hand holding the end of the handle . then try lifting it again holding it at its balancing point .
Pretty much like standing sound waves in room acoustics then 😀

My czs200 wouldn't hit a barn door when i got it . in made and fitted a brass barrel band and shot a 250/14x with fitted with a 3x9x40 scope rested on a block of foam

It’s always been said, not to float AA barrels, and I’d probably agree with that in respect to full length barrels, but, my S400 carbine with a light Weihrauch mod, as opposed to the AA offering, which is way too heavy would disagree 🤗

I've bought a hw100k th stock to go on my hw100. There is a channel in the stock for the band but I'd have to shim it on the air cylinder. Do I shim it, leave as is or remove it altogether?
