Quick one. Jumped on to a hawke vantage red dot for the hw 45 9-11 dovetail to keep it lower to the gun. Problem is tightening it with the supplied plastic screwdriver thingy, the scope walks it's way down the gun. Nothing on hawkes web sight / reviews to say this is unsuitable for a spring guns. Googled it before buying, which sights are suitable for a hw 45?...... Hawke vantage 1 x 20. Any ideas ? it's only held on the pistol by one screw 🫣. Don't like tightening too much, unless hawke can give me a maximum torque value. Is there a way to attach a physical stop in front of the sight?

Vector Optics do these .

Vector Optics 11 to 14mm Dovetail Arrestor Block with Silicone Rubber Buffer and Recoil Pin

I had a Singlepoint sight on mine years ago I can't remember what mounts I used. It never moved .
One like this .

Flatrajectory could be right but
i think the PLASTIC SCREWDRIVER THINGY should be replaced with a real screwdriver and or Hex wrench and just tight up the screws
I think hawke design, should have put Two screws on the scope at least. Instead they put one screw in the middle and don't supply a washer under the nut. I always thought a washer spread the load out more evenly under the nut. Daft by any means to me. OR put a warning on the box. Unsuitable for spring rifles and pistols. OR put a maximum torque value that the nut could be tightened to ? Just suggestions

I was after a red dot sight for my HW45 and wanted one that would fit the 11mm dovetail rail that is on recent models, to have it as low as possible to the barrel, and for simplicity. However if it shifts along the rail after shooting, I may just go for a picatinny rail mounted red dot sight and use the optional upper picatinny rail that comes with recent HW45s.
I have a pistol scope for the HW45 that I occasionally use, and it also shifted along the 11mm rail after multiple shots, until I really tightened up the scope mount screws (2 for each of the 2 mounts, 4 screws in total). It no longer moves on the rail.

Think that's where I'm struggling, can't find a scope stop that is less than 7mm tall ( 7 mm to bottom of hawke red dot) I'm left with the option of tightening the single hawke mounting screw with a spanner 🫣 or cutting my picatinny rail to use the cut section to cushion against the scope. This would work, but trying to find a replacement for it ( if I wanted to go back to standard set up) is a nightmare. Why can't I just buy a new hw45 picatinny rail FFS.

Yes Medieval that's odd you can't source the Picatinny rail part that comes with current HW45s, I assume you've done the research. You could always get a small low profile mount converter to make the Hawke Picatinny-compatible, then just mount it on the installed optional rail.
BTW, can someone remind me, which way do mounted optics want to move down the rail on HW45s after multiple shote? I think it is forward, towards the muzzle, yeh?

Your thinking is correct, the optics would have a tendency to crep forward due to the recoil, hence the recommendation of the fitment of a recoil stopper.

Yep towards the muzzle. After posting original message, I found that I could just and so cut/ file a scope mount that I had, so that It sits under the tiny hawke red dot. Photo attached. Seems to be holding in place, fingers crossed.

Seems like you found a good solution.
However, looking at the description that goes with your Hawke Vantage 1x20 9-11mm Red Dot on one website's selling page, the text includes:
'Ideal for pistols, air rifles, and rimfire firearms'
My point is that if the manufacturer says it's suitable for rimfire firearms, it must be possible to tighten up the mount screw enough to stop movement on the rail from the recoil generated by an HW45, as that is surely less than the recoil from a rimfire pistol.

Good news is that the mod is holding firm 😁
