Dear Knowledgable AGF Members,
Very new to this forum. Apologies if this has been asked many many times, I have tried the search function but with no results. Not sure if I’m using it correctly.
I’m looking to move up to my first PCP from a springer. I have a very limited budget possibly £300 to £400 max. I’m looking to be shooting rats on my own property at max 25-30yds.
What would people recommend as a first accurate, quiet PCP in this price? I am considering GS515 day/night digital as my first night vision scope to put on it having watched the excellent recent YT videos by the respected TbT.
Apologies again if this has been asked a hundred times before.

Regards.

Euron

I have an RM-8 which is a little over budget (maybe look at 2nd hand?) but DAI have an offer at the moment where you get the whole kit including a pump (not a great one but better than nothing) for about £550. At that distance its very useful for small things and with the included moderator on its pretty quiet too. My brother uses a Lyra which is more in budget but you will need to add some way of charging it as a minimum. I have no real experience of other pcps but another option may be to convert a CO2 gun to HPA? Not sure if its worth it but it opens up a few more options.

Have a look at the video that @Tinbum made about a full set up for under £500, I think the rifle was a snowpeak. Obviously you will still need a pump or cylinder to charge it.

Hi welcome, the best advice is to handle as many as possible via a rfd or club, find out what fits YOU then make a shortlist.
Suggestions that can be filled with a hand pump-
kral puncher / np02
reximex myth lite/ lyra K/ lyra bp
umarex notos.

So many choices. A Gamo Phox/GX 40 type rifle will do what you want. Second hand packages with pump scope moderator and bag, if you can find one, should be within your budget. Hand Pumping is ok (for me) to about 180 bar. On the one I had the ideal working range was 180 bar to 120 bar. I have a compressor so could fill to 230ish but didn’t bother. Lots of other choices too.

Umarex Iconix is the very cheapest at about £200 I think that is accurate, but has a very poor shot count compared to the next step up. The Reximex and Kral entry point guns are very good and will give you around 80-100 shots and work well in other disciplines too should you wish to try others beyond pest control.

I got a Reximex Lyra for less the £400 and I love it.

Hi Euron and Welcome. Personally, as above, a second hand BSA ultra or Air Arms S400 or 410 if you want a magazine would be my choice. I would prefer a used one of these to a new cheaper gun myself. S400/410 are simple, reliable with plentiful spares and easy to service when required and will do everything you need an air rifle to do. You can use a stirrup pump reasonably easily with the right technique, (use your weight not your arms), but will probably want either a divers bottle or compressor at some point.
Cheers
Chris.

As others have said, don't forget to factor in the extras. You have already mentioned the scope, but there's also the silencer & charging equipment to consider.
Last year bought my first PCP new in a bundle deal. The pump supplied was useless, ended up buying a Hills 5.
Happy with the gun, Kral Puncher K. Could do with a higher shot count, but that's just me.

A single shot, MMC Ultra is still one of the best guns around imo. Great if you don’t need a high shot count and bargains are around!
Yep, agreed. Mine (y)
