wot no spare wheel....?

Neither of my cars even have a space saver! Worries me sick! :sick:
Additionally my newest car has different sized wheels at the front and the back! So definitely no chance of getting one for that!
 
Real genius move from the manufacturers on this one , get a regular puncture which would normally cost around £10 to get fixed . Now you need a brand new tyre costing over £100 as the time taken removing the " goop " stuff makes a repair uneconomical .

Full size spare in my car, that weighs over 40kg. And yes, I have had to change it at the roadside (twice). It is not fun
 
Not had a spare wheel or space saver in my last 3 cars. Just a 12v compressor and some tyre slime which is pretty useless if you have a blow out.

My newest car can't have one even if I wanted to with 357mm discs the calipers are so big a steel wheel won't fit over them.

That said they're all new cars so they come with free roadside assistance for 3 years. Press a button in the roof and it puts you through to someone who can get recovery out.
 
My Focus doesn't come with a spare. Last year we were travelling to Lincoln for a few days away when I hit a pot hole. It had been raining heavily & it was full of water & just didn't see it.
The tyre was ripped apart & the gloop wasn't going to work. A search on Google got me a mobile tyre place & he was out within an hour with a new tyre & fitted it.
When we got back I got myself a space saver wheel & although there's a small indent in the boot floor, it's not really big enough even for a space saver, but it's in there, plus a new jack & wheel nut wrench as well.
I have carried those sticky string puncture repair kits in the car & on the bike. I've used them on the bike & they're a piece of cake, but access to the wheels/tyres is easier on a motorcycle than a car.
 
Space savers should only be used on rears. If your front tyre goes, you're supposed to move a good wheel from the rear, then put the saver on that.
How do you jack the whole side of the car to remove front and rear wheel to swap rear to front then fit space saver with the flimsy jack they give you. You would need additional axle stand or equivalent.

Jack the back up, take a good wheel off,, put the spacesaver on. Jack the front up, take punctured wheel off and put the good wheel on.

Take the rear one off first, then put the saver on that. Drop it, then Jack the front up n replace it.
That's assuming you've got nut wrench n a good length of scaffold pipe to undo the over tightened nuts undone
 
It’s ludicrous
We have two old cars 24&25yrs old both have full size spare wheels, brace and Jack
We just bought a cheap old focus that has space saver wheel, brace and Jack
The chap that sold us the focus was fuming , his new car has neither spare wheel or Jack. He asked where the owners manual was… was informed he would have to download a copy. He’d just spent over £20 grand!!

It’s crackers.
 
lots of posts here where people have hit potholes and blown the tyre 😮
 
Bought my CR-V at 7 yrs old. Saver spare with about 2 bar of air in it, electric air pump still sealed in its plastic shrink wrap n an out of date gloop set, with Jack n nut wrench. Not designed to take full size steel wheel, let alone the standard alloys it got.
 
I had a space saver in my first company car. Had a tyre go, so pulled over to change the wheel. This is when I realised that the spare was under the floor in the boot, below all the tools and spare parts I needed for my job. So, I unloaded the boot into the back seat, swapped the wheels, and then realised that the full sized road wheel wouldn't go into the space where the spare came out! So I had to drive around with all my kit on the back seat, and a flat tyre in the boot, until the company organised a new tyre. It was a brand new Honda Civic hybrid (pretty hateful car at the best of times) so it had special low rolling resistance tyres on it.
 
I just added a spare wheel to my son's new (to him) vehicle. It's set up for an under-slung carrier and wheel, but you have to buy them (and the jack, tool kit, etc.) separately if you want them. He's driving to Prague and back in the summer ... I wouldn't want to do that without a spare.

He trashed 3 tyres and 2 wheels in a year on his previous car (all from hitting potholes). That did have a spare as standard.
 
Those in charge of car design and those in charge of road maintenance know that since 2015 we “don’t need roads”

So no need for tyres and potholes don’t matter. Shame the guys in the engine department didn’t get the message

I had a car like that. Came with a space saver that was deflated to fit in the wheel well, and a pump for it. Of course, this meant whatever wheel you took off wouldn’t fit in the well. And there was nowhere else to put it (boot space too small, two seater). Fortunately I never needed to change the wheel !

Which might introduce another problem because many tyre valves contain a sensor that informs the ECU if the tyre loses pressure, and the ECU can become confused if what it believes is (say) the rear offside wheel suddenly becomes the front nearside !
 
Our car said we had a low tyre pressure on one wheel but annoying it didn't say which one. But what it did say was that a low pressure was detected by a difference in wheel rotational speed, so a flat tyre has a smaller rolling radius and must rotate faster to keep up with the others.
