Reason to change calibre.?

Not owned a .22 rifle in years, mainly because I now only shoot shorter distances and open sights/bell target.

But shot a .22 TX the other day and it was a lot more smoother than the .177 stuff.

So now I'm thinking do I actually need just 1 rifle in .22 for that smoother experience.

Got a boat load of .177 ammo here, and the thought of having to find a new guns favourite ammo and stocking up on the dearer .22 pellets is a little glitch that is putting me off.

Scratch that needs itching..?

Just get a spare .22 barrel for that sexy little HW 50s you've got....job done

I'm .22 baws deep since the 80s 😁

In all seriousness, for a springer I think it gives a nicer cycle, currently got a .177 HW98 Grey Laminate Nick Simmons masterpiece which is lovely but once I've ran out of .177 pellets I'll sell the beauty and get another .22. If you cant shoot .22 pellet sub 12 on quarry out to 30 metres and on target to 50-60 metres, give it up.

At this point I feel quite content in my collection of .177 (for now ...) and I suspect my next purchases will be .20, .22, .25 just so I can play with them...

but I'm already starting to need a dedicated room to store these things 🙃
Ive got one, they still spill over to the rest of the house

It is not just the calibre that makes a gun shoots nice. You toyed with one of the best springers on the market.

In general, the bigger the calibre, the heavier and slower the pellet travels to reach that 12ftlb. So shooting the lighter .177 may be faster but has a snappier spring to accelerate it which you tend to feel.

Therefore in 20, 22 and 25, the spring harshness can be progressively less the bigger the calibre.

Many here will argue that a well tuned 177 can equal and better a .22cal. Not going to argue. Each individual gun can be successfully set up to varying degree of finesse and to your liking.

I have many springers and only 2 of them are in 177. These being in the hw30k guise which shoots at a lowly 8ftlb.

My own general rule is to stick to .20cal and above for springer in full power to have a pleasant shot cycle.
