A local farmers market fair in the fall of 2011.
My son Erik is 6 years old and wander into a booth with his younger sister in tow.
There he finds an Airsoft shooting range.
He looks at Hjalmar, running the both, owner of the local hunting and fishing store "Björns Jakt & Fiske".
He excuses himself and ask how much it costs to shoot.
-"Aren't you a little too young to shoot?", Hjalmar says
-"I have shot before", Erik replies..
-"He has, he's my brother", said Malin.
"-It's 10 SEK", answers Hjalmar..
-"I don't carry around that kind of money", moans Erik..
(Since 10 SEK is roughly equivalent to £0.8, Hjalmar finds that comment amusing)
-"Look here, It'll let you shoot this time only for free, but don't tell your parents, if they might object.."
One of his parents (me) did come and caught him in the act, snapping that shot behind his back without him knowing - and, I didn't mind.
I left before they noticed me, and later on showed him the pic in the car.
A few years later he asked me for the pic to his picture collection when he got himself a smartphone, fondly remembering that day..
Spring 2023.
Erik enters the shop in his volunteer Home Front defence uniform and greets Hjalmar behind the counter, presenting him with his freshly acquired FAC, just a week past his 18:th birthday.
-"I want to buy my own Ruger 1022 today and I want to buy my first gun on my first ticket just from you!"
Hjalmar looks confused, but is as always ready to help his customers, he turns away, reaches for the paperwork and when he turns around again he find himself looking into a an old pic from a fair years ago on Eriks mobile phone.
"You made this sell 12 years ago."
At first he don't make the connection, Erik has turned into a 80 kg and 170 cm tall soldier instead the tiny lad in a plaid shirt..
Nowadays he is just as well known in the shop as his old father, dropping in every time he is off duty and needs to fill up with lead, heading to the range...
