Over the last 2 years I've started doing hft comps at the nefta region clubs. As well as the main hft, there are silhouette and pistol side shoots. I've never done the side shoots, and this year, myself and a few people I shoot with have decided to do them.

At the moment I've got bronze and silver star hw45 springers on open sights and a pp700w green grip with a 2x20 scope. I struggle with the springers so want a better pcp. I dont want to spend a fortune but I'm thinking of a better pcp pistol around 500 quid ish. The pp700 is ok, just feels a bit cheap and has a trigger like a light switch.

2 mates have the mitos which feel really good to shoot. Another one that made me look is there air arms alfa proj, at around 5-600 used.

Anyone got advice on either of these 2 or any other options within this sort of budget, cheers.

A used hw44 would come in at this budget and is a much better pistol than the mito

I love my Mito. Though it needs some TLC to be competition friendly. Trigger springs could hold up my car so you’ll need to change them to something lighter. You’ll find loads of guides online.

The provided single dot shot loader is okay, but loads the wrong side for me. I got one of the Shooting Saddles ones you can find on eBay.

I have the PCP version of the Alfa Proj, an excellent and accurate pistol. Tiz gathering dust as hasn't been used for ages since having been fully serviced. Am having issues with pistols because of shoulder injuries.

Not a fan of the pcp Alpha. Too small cilinder, too little charge, not very consistent for a regulated pistol. They were made for, and better in, co2 trim.
HW44s are excellent but too expensive.
Ive heard good things about the mito.

The shot count is fine if set-up by someone that knows what he is doing, @cloverleaf sorted mine for me.

If you can find one, then a crosman 1701p would fit the bill. Designed for silhouette shooting.

I recently picked one up and have been meaning to do a post on it but so far it's a great pistol.

Very nice setup. Where did you get the cylinder rail please?

I have a Snowpeak PP20 that I bought off this forum. I cannot recommend this model. Unless you are comfortable tinkering, forget it. I cannot begin to remember how many times I've had the grip off to re-adjust one of the plethora of trigger and hammer spring adjustment screws. It seems that adjusting one aspect of the trigger affects another. It feels fragile and I am NEVER confident that it is going to perform adequately or at all. All I can say, it is accurate but there's more to enjoying ownership than that.

Thats the 2 pcps I have at the moment. The green one is mine and the black one I got for my Mrs. My plan is to get something a bit better, and switch to a red dot too, struggling with the 2x20 scope.

They wont do more than 90 out of the box, and those arent all consistent shots either. My morini and steyr do 200 ish. Different beasts.
I had the Alpha in co2. Much better. They werent designed for pcp and it shows. Prefer the Tau 7 anyway.

That would be the top of my list for HFT

I am as far from being a pistol expert as you might find. However, if you're looking for a 'jack of all trades', i.e. a pistol that will happily plink, 'target' and 'rifle', then I can genuinely recommend the Mito.

As @PartTimeLegend mentioned above, the trigger does need some tweaking, but for around £5 and 10-15 minutes' work, it can quite literally be transformed. OK, it won't be 'match' good, but not a million miles off.

Accuracy is genuinely as good as anything available. I recently put mine through its paces at around 20 yards rested (stock and scope fitted), and found that it shot quite accurately with most pellets, and produced genuine one-hole groups with AA Express (7.87gr) pellets. I haven't yet had the chance to test it further out, but I am fairly confident that it should remain as accurate at longer distances.

£500 will actually buy you a fair amount of kit...

£350 will get you the synthetic version with the stock, or the walnut grip (no stock), from Range & Country. I have occasionally seen them at around £335, and on occasion, as low as £290 via Pellpax.
£30 will get you a BobP adjustable target grip, should you wish to enhance the 'target' experience.
£110 will get you a BobP fully adjustable target stock, should you wish to build a versatile 'jack of all trades'.

Thanks for all the replies. I was really considering the alfa proj, 2 nearby for sale within budget. Its payday today, checked again and they've both gone. Might treat myself to a new mito.
