Hi, what are owners opinions/preferences on springs & kits for their HW80's?.

I have recently acquired a new to me .20 cal HW80k that is putting out around 8.5 FPE with H&N trophies. I'm going to be looking at spring options,
I have thought about going down the sleeved cylinder & short stroke routes but want to keep the characteristics of the HW80 and like the lazy shot cycle of them.
Has anyone got a Welsh willy dagda or a titan 10+ spring in there HW80 and if so what are they shooting like?
Thanks & Look forward to hearing owner's opinions and options 👍

Titan 10 might be a bit too narrow for the 30mm piston,

If you want to keep it as 30mm, I’d recommend one of Nick’s TBT springs.
He has specific ones suited to the 30mm piston in the 80 / 35.

Plus side being it’ll come supplied with fitted guides too

Titan springs tend to be harsh, I'd go WW or TBT

My 80 is sleeved down to 25mm with a LGV piston, I wish it was the full size one now lol.

+1 For the Tbt kits, although Ive got a Vortek kit in my .177 with Vortek piston and breech seals, another option...👍

I had always had not great experiences f Titan springs and gave up on them after putting a number 4 in my Eclipse and temporarily completely ruining the shot cycle

However I have had great results with a number 10 in my 99 and also recently took a punt on a 7 in my other Eclipse (needed a sleeve due to the spring being for guns with a bore smaller than the 30mm Eclipse)
Needed to collapse a coil or two to stay legal, but the gun shoots surprisingly very well indeed

Pricey kit's them vortek are, best part of £150 not including p+p for a sub 12 HW80 kit and piston seal. Do you find the shot cycle a little snappy or nice and sedate?

I have thought about the sleeved down route but it wouldn't be a HW80 after and more like a fat HW95 😄.

Ive trimmed mine down bit by bit to 10.2 , Had around 100 pellets through it now and doing 10.5, I expect it to rise a bit more, its a quick cycle but not too snappy. I only shoot paper so happy in the 10's 👍

I always try and keep my Springer's in the mid to late 10's. The vortek kits look good for making fine adjustments as they don't need coils collapsing and dressing.

At 8.5, sounds like it needs a new seal, i got a heavily used .20 80, that was doing 10, but the piston seal was shot, replaced that, then had to reduce the spring....

Trust me they are much more than a fat 95,its genuinely worth doing, mine is at 11.4 in .177 feels like its doing 4,a 95 doing 11.4 in .177 will feel pokey compared, the 80 weight thing is a myth, they weigh near the same as a 97 or tx.

Piston seal is fine and holding compression well, I stripped it & degreased the cylinder and piston and washed them out. Inspected the piston seal for any nicks and all is good, lightly lubricated the piston and seal then placed back into the cylinder and covered the transfer port with my finger and tried Pushing the piston down (no chance), same when trying to pull the piston out with transfer port covered (again no chance), did the same process with the barrel in place and in lock up and covered the end of the muzzle which proved the breech seal to be good as well.
The cylinder has been honed at some point in it's life and looks to be a good finish.
I have currently got it up to 10.2 FPE with some delrin preload washers but ultimately want to renew the power plant.

I’ve got a few vortek kits in my HW80’s
An ARC Turning glided kit and one from a former member that’s been glided and has custom guides

Also got venom and VMac ones but you can’t really include than as not readily available

Plenty of options around, the vortek is easy to fit and tweak and is top shelf, not cheap but makes the whole cycle better imo

How do you find the ARC setup shoots?

Very similar to my Venom, slightly snappy but in a civilised manner

It was £200 but when you consider you get a piston seal and a custom made piston, top hat and guides, it’s a very good deal if you take the vortek kit at £125 which needs another £25-30 for a seal and no glide

Yes £200 is good when compared to a vortek kit and seal, well worth considering, thanks for your reply 👍

Titan 10 plus will be a little too soft for a HW80.
@WelshWilly dagda spring will do fine sub 12
A ptfe sleeve inside original steel piston sleeve is recommended.
Weihrauch guides, plastic with steel flange, for 77/ 97 can be fettled to fit.
