Anyone into old axes? Got a couple I have had for a very long time now looking to move them on, some quite large... tried a couple of axe sites on FB and just got messed around. Ebay has introduced some distinctly weird rules on "bladed arricles" which defies logic. Please message for any pics....

I like keeping old axe's and other tools aside from the skips in work for people who like the look of them they just go for a few quid i technically give them away but i dont keep any myself i havent got the room, your best bet for a decent sale is local market stalls as thats where I found most older tool and other random bits sell better, the older generation like and appreciate the older tools and most dont go online so im not sure about wheres best online to sell them, I tried selling these on FB market place for anyone wanting to do them up and re-use i got banned from marketplace even though to my knowlege they would be classed as culinary blades? Im sure they meant we'll I should have known better I suppose, have you got any images of the axes just out of curiosity. 👍

I've a few old axes but wouldn't call myself a collector..

You would be ok listing them in the General sales forum, They would fit in there perfectly 👍

I have a few Finnish ones, but mainly (mostly?) they are WW2 or earlier, military issued types, including a very large felling axe or two.
We use a blacksmith colleague to make the correct shaped shafts, then I make the leather covers of whatever type is suited to the axe model. Helps when they are on the public display at WW2 shows, and stops us getting ripped to bits when moving them around with the rest of the unit kit.
Just about to import about a dozen more axe heads from Finland...once I sort out shipping

I love very old axes, billhooks etc, and have many.
Put a post up in the for sale section of the forum, you will get them sold properly, and within forum rules.

@Finnberg if you intend to sell these axes then you need to put them on a sales ad in the general sales section ;)

I’ve known and Worked with a few battle axes if they count ?

I found about a dozen in my granddads shed few years ago when clearing it out . Think my brother butchered a few to make them look like Viking axes

I bought an axe head from a charity shop for 50p because it had NCB stamped on the side of it. Fitted a really good quality handle and stoned it to shaving sharp, but have never used it. Daren't risk damaging it, how daft is that!

I was given a modern cheapie French axe. They have an enlarged cutting edge with a thin blade. Use it for taking out shallow rooted bushes in the fields by cutting through the soil and root together and just pulling the stump out.

Also have some old and new billhooks, one of which was another charity shop 50p buy. A rusty, badly looked after Ewell double edged blade which now has a lovely new French handle fitted to it. Found a very dusty box of them in the back of a hardware store, price marked in Francs.

Still as good as the day it was made unlike most of the modern shite.
I've just been looking through the forum and spotted this, lovely axe!
I have my grandad's Elwell from when he was in the army fire service, something I proudly have on display.

Nice! This one is stamped 1952, they're a solid bit of kit that's for sure

I have three, different sizes for different jobs, all made by Gransfors Bruk. One of them I have had for over 30 years, still used now.
