Universal Credit. (The nightmare).

My PIP was due for renewal last November, I wasn't looking forward to it all despite having pages and pages of evidence.
Long story short, I've been treated for Lymphoma at UCLH since 2022, a very helpful lady at Macmillan in UCLH filled the form iandn for me and had every bit of evidence already copied and ready to send as she could access my files.
I got a response within weeks saying my claim has been extended for another 3 years, and it was because they called my CNS and asked her if she would be surprised if I died within 6 months, and she said no she wouldn't be surprised due to my current health issues!

So that was easier than I thought, although possibly croaking isn't ideal, swings and roundabouts I guess 😅

Partner was on mumsnet last night and sent me this…

£330 Billion on f**king benefits!!

Honestly, I’m so beyond being pi$$ed off!! 🤬

This is exactly why I flatly refuse to do any OT at work… why should I put myself out to pay more tax to fund others.

Never!! 🤬🤬🤬
I will pay the bare minimum and to hell with em’

Edit : Partner recently turned down a promotion at her work after she calculated just how hard she would get hit by increased tax and the stress of the new role…. She’s staying where she is …smart woman!!

I can understand your anger when you see figures like that, but hearing you say 'why should I put myself out to pay more tax to fund others' makes people like myself feel a bit sh*t to be honest, whether you care or not is another matter.

I've worked from the minute I left school in 1991 right up until I got cancer in 2022, I've paid in all those years or however you want to look at it, and now I need some help, which is not something I ever expected and any one of us could suddenly find they need help unexpectedly.

So, yes I do understand where you're coming from with what appears to be a lot of people claiming benefits, some of those possibly fraudulently or unwarranted, but please don't tar us all with the same brush

I don’t really see it as tarring with the same brush, although probably not particularly well presented
Benefits are intended as support for people in need and you meet that criteria, it was never intended or meant to be a lifestyle choice which for quite a few it has become
We are seeing an increasing trend for people to chose not to work rather than be unable to work and as long as that continues frustrations and anger will continue to rise.
In reality the costs of benefits is not sustainable but cleverer people than me will have to solve that problem but I think it’s not going to be pleasant for some people

I'm not arguing that this is sustainable, it clearly isn't, I think maybe the wording of the post just got to me a bit, not something that doesn't usually happens but it just hit a nerve.

With regards to my 'tar us with the same brush' part, you do feel lumped in with the less genuine and fraudulent recipients of benefits, so yes it does feel like that to me when you see a blanket statement saying they refuse to fund others, when there's no mention of those in genuine need.

Again, I completely understand the state the system is in and it needs an overhaul.

I suppose I deal with this on a daily basis so see beyond the written word, it is hard for the genuinely needy, no one doubts that and yes frustrations will be seen from both sides

It's a prickly subject, I hate seeing the figures being spent and loathe benefits cheats, but seeing a post with loads of angry face emojis directed towards benefit recipients as a whole is just a little disheartening.

A work colleague told me his brothers new GF just got a brand new car because her 6yr old son has ADHD!! I relayed this story over the weekend to friends, they both laughed then said the couple next door (new build house) both kids in private schools… they too just got a brand new car for exactly the same reason.. one child has ADHD

It’s ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous.

I had to pay £8K 3yrs ago for a new boiler (warm air unit & combi) I had to lift the floors and put back. Had I been on benefits I would have gotten a grant!
Same goes for opticians , dentists…

I’m pig sick of funding everybody’s life… sick of it!!

Yes if the child is in receipt of the Higher Rate Mobility component of Disability Living Allowance they can apply for Motability
The issue being they are not doing anything wrong, only claiming what they are entitled to
As recently demonstrated any reforms will be shouted down
I don’t begrudge paying for genuinely needy people but we all probably know less genuine recipients but that’s a difficult problem to resolve, as inevitably genuine people will suffer along the way

I’m a fairly recent member of the forum. When I joined I made the decision not to make any political posts or comments. However, after reading this thread I have to say this. Please be careful about repeating or even believing posts on social media. There are some very rich and powerful people who are spending what is to normal people, enormous sums of money to demonise those less fortunate as scroungers. So if for example someone posts that people on UC are being given free taxi’s to get to the job centre, and they know that it’s true because their work mate’s cats mother in law told them so. Then If you press the op they eventually admit that it’s something they heard on the entertainment channel called GBnews. Be open minded and check sources. We are living in difficult times. If you have obtained a good standard of living, enjoy it. Do all the things you love with your family and friends. Dont get angry and upset because you hear of, or read a story that makes the less fortunate look bad. That doesn’t help anyone. Here endeth the sermon. I won’t be replying to any comments on this one. I just felt this had to be said. Thank you for bothering to read it.

Well, my GP sent me a fit note covering 65 days this morning so, I'll get that put on the journal tonight and, wait to see what they make of it I suppose 🙄

Well, here we go - back to messing about again 🙄

No where to put the fit note that they asked for on the journal so, I typed up the details in a message for the work coach person. God forbid they should actually use the information that they asked for. I've been told to now declare a change in circumstances which, is what I thought I'd fkn done all along.
To top it off, all of my evidence - medical stuff and diagnoses letters that I paid to send to their health assessment advisory service at the Winterstoke road offices in Bristol (like I was told to)have come back to me as 'addressee gone away' 🤦

Good grief 🙄
Maybe I just need to put it all together and park my bum in the local job centre until someone there can be bothered to do some work 🤷

Yes, I suppose it could be mate. I was just disappointed that it had all been bounced back to me - not sent on to a forwarding address for them 🙄

I used to be able to see those offices while I was moving wagons about in my old depot in Stoke Gifford, just across from Bristol Parkway station.

I remember being told that the reason that all of the crusties had dogs, was that they could claim them as dependents...

When I said that wasn't the case I was cursed up and down and told it was a fact

When I mentioned that my then wife was a legal officer with the DWP, I was told that it was a 'new rule'

"There are none so deaf as those who will not hear"

The internet has ruined pub arguments that used to run for years...
