Bloody hell fire !!!!!

Interesting that’s where the standard of written English takes you. To me it’s an exact match for the attempts of a stupid old boomer to communicate. The addition space before punctuation is a dead giveaway. They all do that.
No they don't. Your insulting and patronising comment about "stupid old boomers" is wide of the mark, most of us were taught how to spell, use proper grammar and punctuation and can phrase sentences a lot better than that scam attempt. Your third sentance should say "The additional space" or "The addition of a space".

Alan - old boomer and proud of it.

As a "stupid old boomer" may I just correct you?
We do not "all do that."

It is difficult to know whether such poor English is somebody from abroad with English as a second language or a Brit with dyslexia or simply abysmal language skills.

We '"stupid old boomers" often take some pride in our ability to communicate, although I agree with your implied criticism of the racist assumption.

There is a theme here....
That's the third time I have heard of this scam....not involving guns though.

Certified cheque
Collection by a third party, after cheque clears

Full name
Address
Phone number
" Do they have your email already?*

Once you have given them you details, you will not here from them again
They will go on the net, searching for any info they can about you and build ID theft
I have had this arrangment offered a number of times for fishing gear but needless to say I have not dealt with them.

Just an update, all my previous posts have been about a chap selling a firearm who is a member of our club, he's now been advised by the Met to lodge all his guns with an rfd for 2 weeks while the investigation is ongoing

You said he was the club chairman too! Serious stuff but hopefully common sense prevails in quick order!

I guess they're worried about a break in and he still has his licences I think, someone has tried to use a fake license in his name now but all other details were fake.
Makes sense I guess. Hopefully they get the guy and your chairman can go back to business as usual :)

This makes no sense, how would they even have his address for there to be any risk?

At this point, this part of the discussion needs to stop. Otherwise, there might be other issues.

I was selling a rifle (FAC) before on another forum, asked the guy to send me a picture of his FAC to prove legitimacy… he went off on one, saying that I wanted to clone his certificate and it’s a private document, at the end of the day I’m going to see it when he picks up the rifle!

I'm sure I've seen something about RFDs being fooled by fake certs before, too. At the risk of sounding like I'm asking for even more onerous restrictions, I never understood why we don't have a scannable card linked to your license digitally. Easier for us, for RFDs, and for plod.

Tell him you would like the cheque sent to your place of work which is where you keep the gun. Then forward him the address of your local nick.

All you need is a personal number that you can type in it will confirm the details before transaction so for instance I am buying a gun my numbers given ie 1234567 to seller he checks it with my name at firearms database or even better just your face please send a picture of your face before addresses are handed out

As yet another "stupid old boomer" or "Initiate of the Queen's English" I would like to suggest a more contemporary possibility, namely the use of Speech to Text software. That blend of rambling and flaky grammar with few spelling mistakes seems to be a characteristic.
