The law has just been updated with much higher penalties, farmers have always been able to shoot dogs that attack or worry livestock.Good job many of these owners today did not live where and WHEN I grew up. The local farmers were not tolerant to Dogs near livestock or Pheasant pens and would not hesitate in reaching for and using a 12 gauge which was almost always to hand in their Land Rover or such like.
My parents suffered this back in the early 1950's when their dog escaped from their garden and was shot by the landowner who my Father was working for and renting a cottage from. Mother never totally forgave him but accepted the fact her Terrier was a little bugger when near Chickens etc.
Not sure if landowners have the freedom to do it today as they did back then.
Dog owners face unlimited fines under new sheep worrying law
The penalties for failing to keep dogs under control near livestock are becoming more severe.
I fully understand that anyone who does not have a dog being angry about fouling and bags of poo all over the place.
I'm a dog owner and I also do litter picking, but dog poo is difficult to remove when you can't wash your hands. I have made some real improvements in reducing litter where I walk my dog but dog poo is more difficult to remove and doesn't mix well with other litter.
The situation has been much worse since the Covid lockdowns.
Most dog owners are like me, they pick up their dogs mess and leave the area tidy for others to enjoy.
