I have just joined the 'shot my Chrono' club

They are repairable. There have been previous threads. But I don't know what way round up and down are the sender LED and the receiver photo diode or phototransistor. (A photodiode is faster but has much less signal) I can't find a circuit to confirm what is fitted. You can argue it either way.
It's best to replace these in pairs. You can't see what's going on, but leds and photo devices have to be bought as a matched pair for the light frequency they use. Somewhere I have 50 sets...deep in the shed.

An IR led 5mm, about £4 for ten.
The led of an old TV remote would do.
Easy job to fix if you have a soldering iron.

I can send you an LED but not until next week.
I can fix it for you, all it will cost is postage.
I will add a picture of the damage, you can then suggest the best course of action. Thanks for the offer of help (y)

I an also a member of the shoot the LED club. I successfully replaced the LED on mine. I have attached some notes from when I sourced the replacement device, this was some time ago so the ebay item number probably won't work.

Not me 🙏 👀 but my shooting buddy took his near new landcruiser out lamping he put a 22 LR round straight through the N/S electric all singing all dancing wing mirror blaming the height of the NV on his rifle 🤣🤣 it wasn’t a cheap replacement- now he exclusively uses his old freelander again 👍

Photo of the damage, really just clipped it 🤬
