I was passing an rfd in Sussex last week and it would be rude not to swing in! After having a quick look around I spotted a left handed tx200hc in 177. A scratch that I have had for a while.

I shouldered it and it felt great (I've never seen any left handed AA options in flesh) the overall condition was good. Used but good. Few small dings to the walnut, bluing was as you'd expect from AA. What really shocked me was the price tag. I'm sure it said £699. It could have been £599 but I'm fairly sure it said 699. This was rifle only.

I can't see how this is justified. Are left handed actions and stocks that rare? Are they just chancing it, or would people say that this is a true cost of a second/third/fourth hand rifle?

In my (left handed) experience, yes they are. I ended up paying £1200 to get my LH Prosport with a half decent scope on it. I think I have already mentioned on here about buying my Ruger M77. 130 RH versions, 4 LH versions. Some/a lot of guns aren't even available left handed. I can understand a reluctance to tool up for specific LH/RH versions, but a bit more effort to make guns ambidextrous or easily switchable would make more sense than what we have at the moment. Particularly as PCPs don't need the "lock up" of a powderburner, an easily swappable bolt (I think the Daystates have this) makes more sense.

Left handed TX200 is only available with a walnut stock, RRP for a new one is £799

I'm a lefty and I recently brought a used right handed TX200 for £300, and I've ordered an abidextrous walnut stock from Custom Stocks, similar to this below, but with a couple of optional additions/changes. Hopefully should arrive in the next two weeks.

Yes us lefties have to pay the price either more money for a dedicated left hander or settle for something in an Ambi stock. I have always gone for the Ambi option until 3 months ago when I succumbed to a left hand TM1000 when told the price was the same as the right hand version. Felt odd at first when lifting it to the shoulder but have to say it fits like the proverbial glove

I have an pretty much mint hw100 that hasn't seen daylight in about two years. Perhaps a deal could be made there 🤔

Robbing barstools 😞.

A couple of years ago I purchased a beautiful walnut TX200 with an amazing stock (left Handed).
It never even genuinely had a full tin of pellets through it...it was a beautiful carbine.177 version totally unmarked, it was too heavy for me & I've totally switched to PCP now.
I tried to sell it on here & never got as much as a sniff 😢...I paid a massive premium for it from R.FD ....I tried absolutely everywhere & couldn't give it away as nobody wanted a leftie stock despite me being told I'd as good as won the lottery to come across one 😔.

In the end the supplying dealer took it back against another rifle but I took a massive bumming.

That price is ridiculous IMHO. I shoot lefty but will not pay a premium for it.
Do you know how old it was? What would it have cost when new compared to what is being asked now? Even if it is recent that seems too close to current RRP.
I see a lot of older (not collectible, not rare) air rifles being sold now for more than they cost new because the price is being based on current RRP (which has inflated hugely in the last 10-15 years). I walk by those. Some may chose not to.

That is a good condition TX200 in a nice CS stock. I can see why you spent £500 on it if it shoots well and you were after one. Would you pay almost £200 more? Especially if it was in a beech and/or with AA fishscale chequering!?

No, my one would be my limit. There's a few out there cheaper, if you look around.
Probably overpaid for the prosport if you add in the cost of the new lefty stock that's coming. But it is paul short stage 4 tuned and is phenomenal.

I've learnt my lesson now...I only buy ambidextrous to save losing a fortune again 😔.

What I will say is... anyone who keeps there gun's for an eternity will look at things differently.

I also shoot my right handed TX's left handed. The cheek piece is a little sharp, but I barely touch my cheek to it. The right handed grip makes the trigger pull a bit awkward, but no big deal.

I saw a cheap lefty walnut tx200 stock on trader. In the accessories section.Right handed action lefty stock is the way to go. Easier to load for me.

I have 4 set up just that way. 3 are custom walnut and 1 is factory beech, with the right side notched for the loading port. Then there's the one in the picture, plus 3 more in factory right hand beech.🤣
