I have a Daystate Airwolf that has been giving issues with loosing zero. Today I worked out that the barrel is moving in the action. I shot 3 shots first was an inch low I then give the barrel a push up it then shot to the point of aim. I then give it a push down next shot went an almost 2 inch low. A quick google brings up posts online about a barrel band brought out to stop zero shift but I can’t find any listed for the Airwolf

This is not a cure, the barrel should be solid without the barrel band, it's more for protection against knocks than holding it in place. Remove the shroud, make sure the barrel is in properly and the two retaining grub screws on top of it are tight - this should sort it (y)

I have just stripped the barrel and action from the valve body. Removed the shroud and barrel. I found of the six bolts holding the action to the valve body only the 2 slotted screws were tight the the 4 Allen bolts were very loose at least a full turn from tight and the rear most ones several turns. The barrel seems a lot more solid now. I will have to test it out tomorrow

The action being loose shouldn't cause massive accuracy issues as the scope is fixed firmly on top of it. Mine has a barrel band held on by 3 tiny grubscrews and they seem quite common, I normally pick mine up by the barrel and had no issues at all with accuracy so I'm guessing they help.

I was always tempted to remove the barrel band on mine, but haven’t got around to it yet.

I tested it out tonight and the issue seems to be gone shooting ragged holes at 40yd. It also cycles the bolt much smoother after a good clean. It had loads of semi solid grease in the action

Great news Mark, now shoot and enjoy, should'nt need a barrel band, mine's never had a problem in 16 years but then i've never picked it up by the barrel lol. Homer face palm
P.S. what S.N. you got on it.

Dont, unless you handle it like explosives, My airwolf was second hand and no band was fitted, One time they were sent out like this apparently, I bought mine with accuracy problems but soon found that no band was the problem, Bought mine from daystate which at the time said that all thier rifles now come with them fitted due to the same problem , My ranger had one fitted from new, I know of 2 others that had to fit these bands due to zeroing problems,

Good to know! It was clipping on the mod that came with it, but changed to a different one and it seems to shoot really well at sub-12. It’s a 0.22” so once here in Kenya, we’ll try the heliboard and see what it is like.

Checked again yesterday and it had moved poi again. I am going to buy a barrel band hopefully that will sort it out.

It cured the airwolf I bought , I believe daystate fitted these bands to all of the similar guns after 2007 if I remember correctly, I know of others who have had to buy the bands , They were always listed on the auction site but I bought mine from daystate , Some years ago now though ,

Mine is a 2007 I can’t believe that it has gone all them years with this issue. I suspect that the previous owner has removed a band. It groups ok. Once zeroed it is spot on but next time I use it it has shifted poi. Only by an inch at most at 30 yds but it’s enough to miss a rat.

I used a old school type rubber eraser, Cut out slightly for the barrel then used electrical tape to wrap around bottle and barel , With rubber inbetween. Not sure if they weaken over time but a few had used for years then had trouble later on, They not the most sturdy of barrels, Not the ideal gun for slinging in the back of the boot of the car or for even carrying in a bag over the shoulder,

Did you get a band? If so has it cured the problem?

I have bought and fitted a barrel band but my shoulder has gone knackered. Can’t even lift my arm up never mind a gun. Living of painkillers at the moment hopefully it will clear up soon.
