The Rat Works

I was thinking of sending my HW98 to The Rat Works for an advanced tune up.
As this would cost close to £300 inc there and back courier I was wondering if anyone has had any experience of these people?

I’ve had one experience using these guys to diagnose a fault. I dropped the gun down there. They had it approximately two weeks. Contact me and said it was all sorted. I picked it up. It was exactly the same. I’m running over legal limit. I contacted them. they made up several excuses and got quite confrontational on the phone. They said the erratic readings could’ve possibly been because it was a hot day at that point. Wha

Shame we don't have a two finger emoji for this kind of thing.

I had a good experience with RW but my shooting buddy had a bad one, took his FAC Impact in to be set up, collected it noticed a couple of days later it was losing air, took it back left it with them had a call to say all was well and sorted, collected it no different still losing air, the issue is still ongoing.

I think I would be talking to Nick Simmonds for this sort of thing…

Unless I'm missing something here Ratworks are about £215 for tune with Red Seal or whatever it is, and then £60 for courier, and Nick is £230 and presuming courier on top. All down to buyers choice which you go for, or whoever else you choose and a good question to ask before you spend your money. Both look compable to me, just saying and I might be wrong, but some of the replys look like they are a bit hung up on a '£300' springer tune that's actually £215

Depends on what you are asking Nick to do, and what you can or have already done yourself. Ratworks want your entire rifle and to select what they offer in drop down boxes.

I'm still on the fence.
Standard factory 97k but always wondering if a tune would improve it.
Think I'm going to be patient for now and get more lead down it..

You need to get off that fence ASAP, and at least get all of that factory gunk out. And while you're at it 🤣

No experience of RatWorks.

However, I can personally recommend @Nick simmons
I would go back to him in a heartbeat if I needed an HW77 / 97 "tuned" as my old "Airmasters" 77 is superb.

Once you factor in postage etc costs there might not be much difference in total cost.
But I do not recall seeing any negative comments on here from disgruntled customers of Nick?

Anyone who really thinks that a bit of "Elbow grease, Wet & Dry" will deliver an equivalent finished product has clearly never tried one of Nick's rifles. Or is an astonishingly good and undiscovered "tuner!"

I have errrrr "several" 77 /97s all of them 25mm pistons and modified with TbT kits etc.
None are any better than my ex NS rifle - only 2 are close, remarkable for .177s to my way of thinking.
