Hi

I'm new to making and using catapults, 🖐️

I just wondered what you would do in this situation...

I'm right handed, right eye dominant but naturally want to shoot a catapult using holding it in my right hand pulling the band back to my left eye.

It feels strange doing the opposite.

Would you stick with this method that feels more comfortable or try train yourself to shoot the same way you shoot an airgun/ shotgun ect...

Thanks in advance, Dave 👍

Using what feels comfortable and achieves the desired results is correct for you. You can get used to almost anything given enough time. Obviously if it feels comfortable, but you still can’t hit a Barn Door after a couple of months you’ll have to try something else!

Thank you 👍

I will continue as I am then, I can hit okay, I just find I need to shut my right eye so I can see down the bands

Thanks again

A friend and team mate of mine who is widely considered the best 10 meter shooter in the country shoots as you describe, with his non dominant eye. Do what is comfortable and keep at it, you should adapt to anything with practice, there are plenty out there doing it and I’ve seen the question asked quite a few times.
I would try out both ways personally and see how you get on, there is a lot of experimenting in this game to find a setup that really works for you be that frame widths, ott or TTF, different bands, tapers, pouches etc and that’s not to mention physical stance, anchor point pouch grip. so much so try a bit of everything I say, take inspiration from others but find what really works for you.

Im right handed, I shoot pistols, shotguns and rifles righty, but I shoot bows and cattys lefty. I've got nerve damage in my right arm so when I started shooting cattys 4 years ago I couldn't get a consistent release with my right thumb. It was very weird to start of with but quickly became normal. If it feels right then just stick with it

Im right handed but shoot cattys and bows left handed, my dad was the same and my 2 boys are also.
I tried teaching the boys to shoot right handed but they insisted on using the right hand to hold the bow or catty.
For clarification, we use our left eye with right hand hold.
Air rifles are the opposite, strange eh 🤷🏻‍♂️

Haha that's good to know. Yeah I don't get it,...

I'm achieving 3" groups at about 15 to 20 meters so I know I'm okay at hitting and fairly accurate

The only think I struggled with was letting go of the ammo, I don't have the dexterity in my left hand so suffered more then a few fork strikes when I first started.
