I took these photos some forty years ago. Easy stuff now, but a bit more difficult back then. Shot them with a Diana Model 5 pistol in a darkened room. The camera shutter was locked open and the flash triggered by contacts closed by the pellet strike. Kodachrome 25.

London Nocturne racing, another photographer near me was using burst flash making my shots over exposed so I turned my flash off and dropped my shutter speed. Produced some shots like this giving a blurred vision of the speed I quite liked

I took 3 or 4 photos changing the exposure to match the various lighting conditions indoors , outdoors, shadows etc then combined them into one image using software (photoshop or lightroom probably) . You can take similar photos in one go with cameras that allow for HDR imaging.
