Been up early so just looking at YouTube, the problem is the world and his wife want to be bloggers so they buy a cheap camera and mic and post what they think is content we want to see. There are a few that are entertaining to watch but I don’t get it?

Pellet reviews, done outside and they always start by saying “it’s a bit gusty today” followed by “that flyer was my fault” so really all they reviewed was how good or bad shot they were that day.

Product reviews, they got sent a product to review but didn’t bother to read the manual first or do any research into spec, a great example is a guy who the reviewed a heavy duty pellet trap made by TheWolfMan, totally set it up wrong so showed nothing.

Can anyone recommend a channel that shows good proper testing/reviews?

Its ALL self/product promotion hidden behind being a 'enthusitic' air rifle shooter.
I watch the ones I can stomach or are using something i could be interested in,filter out the subliminal advert for what ever it is they got for free or trade price and take them with a pinch of salt.
youtube is the new airgun comic, but if you watch close enough they can't hide the faults of the product without clever editing cuts.
Im bored of rifle reviews as they never stop saying how accurate it is,but the targets say otherwise!

I remember watching Robin Foxer for the first time and thinking "who's this bald T**t" (I am also bald), and then quickly picking up on the quality of his editing and production. For me he was the one that raised the bar. Around the same time I started watching Chris Parkin and found his review format worked for me, he is a shooter and knows what to impart to the audience. His format works well, he invested in a studio and I think set the bar for shooting reviews which others should learn from. Matt Dubber does of course create some great videos and I follow both his shooting and 4x4 channels for their wonderful camera work and beautiful scenery.

There are of course several others on my list, Lancs Vermin Control,Predator Protection and Simon 6pcc who are putting out perfectly watchable videos and are getting better.

The one thing that gets me to turn a video off is wind noise or background noise. You can tell the ones who are at the top of their game when they can report from the shooting show or Shot Show Vegas and you can hear what they are saying.

However, everyone has to start somewhere and people will learn from good feedback. I was going to do a short video on comparing 4 different makes of boots that I currently own. After half a day of playing around and trying various free software publishing tools I gave up and tipped my hat to the guys who are creating stories once a week.

I have a colleague who does weekly cycling videos, they are actually really good quality and quite entertaining. He finds it very difficult to juggle his full time work, video editing & family - and still get out to record new content for the following week.
For him this is a hobby in it self and as several others have said on You Tube, not a revenue stream worth talking about.

Andy's Airgun Reviews (marmite personality) & Chris Parkin (also does videos under the Sportsman Gun Centre branding) are possibly the two that I would go to for the best information. Optics Warehouse are also putting out more content these days.

Be fair. When a sensible question is asked or covered on this excellent forum, there are often a lot of contributions along the line of "I think" rather than "I know, because...". There's a lot of variation in this world. Just look at the "banned" list. As far as reviews are concerned, I'd trust what I find on the forum over any You tube post. On the other hand, when I want to get a rusted in, broken off, stainless steel bolt out of a deep hole without damaging a thread...

IMHO the best place for sub 12 shooting reviews is your local gun club. On many occasions I have asked around and have always ended up with a real world opinion on what's good and what's junk. Not always what I want to hear but has saved ££££££😊

TbT channel Tin Bum Tuning, Nick knows his stuff

HFT Shooter is quite informative

Air Ability for everything you want to know about benchrest

Gary Chillingworth's channel for HFT tips

Sub12airgunners

Of course Crawley Surplus Store for their upcoming bargains 🙌

Actually, I think I fit the OP’s description pretty well and was coming on to apologise!😬

I have done a couple more reviews recently, and I have started to say that if you want technical specs, look elsewhere. All I can do is tell you how it makes me feel to own/shoot/use the equipment. I can’t edit for toffee, have no fancy theme tune, and do all my own stunts!

Always respect your views and have got a lot from your channel in the past. Don't tend to bother tuning anymore after a disastrous 95k experience ( not with your products ) just with how bloody annoying the rifle was consistent wise. No problems with my 77k, that's a keeper.

Surely that is the point with all reviews you are getting someone's opinion, for technical spec we can go to the gun manufacturers website.
I have always been a back garden plinker, until moving out of town with a bigger garden and finding rats on the prowl I now dabble in a bit of ratting, also my son in law @bazztron has taken up target shooting so I have started having a go at that too in the back garden.

Hmm 🤔 autocorrect put 'Plinker' to 'plonker' i think it's trying to tell me something 🤣 I swear my autocorrect has tourettes 😅🤣

We must go to very, very different ranges, I can almost guarantee one bloke will tell me whatever he has now is amazing/awful, even if last week it was the opposite, another will moan about a particular RFD and if I hear the story about the 100yd squirrel that was two feet long one more time, I am going out and buying flak jackets and guns for the greys and teaching them to fight back on principal. I also have to remember not to tell countless people what other people paid for certain things because they then sold them on at massive profit, sometimes within minutes, and they are ‘friends’. Heck, some of them are on here so I can’t even tell the story 😭 The bloke who adjusted the pellet weight down to make his gun look legal and deleted ‘random’ shots - it needed quite a lot of adjustment and a lot of shots deleting - also sticks in my mind.

That said, one older gentleman who takes his wife shooting - haven’t seen them in a while - did a very reasonable scope review on here a while back, and you can usually tell who’s got an opinion worth listening to quite quickly by just listening to the advice they give others. Others are massively knowledgable, friendly and happy to offer advice if asked, the trick is working out who knows what they are talking about and who is simply repeating what they heard.

I find Air Ability a bit biased towards his sponsors. A fairly new channel and very informative so far for BR https://www.youtube.com/@25mbenchchannel

However, this forum is my first port of call for any advice

I like your stuff as it covers things I would do if I had the opportunity and dexterity. I also mix up my worms :D

One channel which I simply cannot bear to watch is anything produced by Range & Country. . Jeez, their unprofessional, interminable waffle without getting to the point can make folk lose the will to live. Homer face palm
It is an essay in "How not to do it."
I could not agree more.

I appreciate they put a lot of effort into what they do and have a new studio etc.

If only they would "Just get on with it"
