4X Anyone?

A basic 4x scope especially a half decent glassed one is simple it is worth checking for 25m parallax and adjusting it if it needs it. Focus the dioptre, and forget about it once you have it zeroed . I have had a 4x40 Doctor "not Docter optic (Run away)" its got a mildot reticule and decent glass its not a swarovski but it has it done well enough 10 to 40m, parallax and clarity at the range you are shooting at. if you can not be bothered to set the parallax you could shove the scope that bit further forward so you see the grey rim so you can centre the image effectively solving potential error.

I've a little Leupold M8 3x20 atop a .22 HW99 that does all it needs to do, further out than required for game hunting.

Same in my old 85. And pretty good in other rifles that like FTT.
Going to give them purple uns a go in my 57/127 sport and superstar.
A dumb naïve HFT ???? For those of you in the HFT KNOW ?
I know a bit about the rules watched GC & JMs HFT vids a bit 12x the max mag with most running 10x or there abouts, The not touching anything after first shot etc, i get the fuzzy image range finding idea too, but a 4x In HFT i heard 6x but 4x in the stuff i seen or read i heard open sights but never 4x, i would have thought 4x would have had it done pretty clear at 40m and you can make out rats no bother at into 20 or so feet. Its enough mag for 15mm kills and they even got mil dots on my doctor optics 4x40 for instance.
Any input here re HFT from them in the game not looking in from the outside like me. .

Still got my 4x40 Simmons Whitetail Classic. Love that crinkle finish!
That Simmo Whitetail is one of the best they produced in the WTC line, huge disc and very bright with a fine Duplex reticle !
I had four years back and one for spares all doing great service but eventually they were sold on but even today I would certainly use one on my springers !
That one looks particularly nice !

My first rifle had a 4x with a crosshair so thick that the rabbits could hide behind it but it felt like the mutt’s nuts at the time. I think 6-8x is about right for me but currently have a 4x on my HW97 and a 6x on the Prosport.

I have never done competitive target shooting and all my shooting is off-hand or rested on a sandbag when zeroing. All my guns are old or oldish springers. Those into precision shooting can therefore ignore my comments.

My oldest guns are all used over open sights. My newest have low end Hawke scopes except my only Chinese gun which has a Chinese 4x . Those in the middle either use open sights or age-appropriate fixed magnification scopes. Amazingly, they all work! For normal springer ranges a good 4x or 6x absolutely does the job, even the old ones or the cheap Chinese job.

Pretty obvious this one but ill mention it in case anyone has somehow missed it.
When using a low power scope and the reticule is not fine enough for what you are doing, say grouping shots etc, on a typical plex reticule i just sit the finest dot i can see a pellet mark say and sit it in a corner of the plex any of the corners will do i tend to use top right but just habit, its actually as good as a super fine cross hair and in low light or dark background it is quite good.

A 4x32 meets my needs too -mine is a Hawke Vantage AO-it doesn't add too much weight and is reasonably compact. Does the job for me.

+1 Big fan of this scope.

My HW80 .22 has a Tasco 4x32AG on it which is very sharp.

An old shooting friend's dad once told me "You'll never need anything more than a decent 4x32." This was back in the 80s/90s and he shot full bore .22-250.

Another great one is the Konus 3-9x32AO. It has a very fine engraved duplex reticle. Very bright and clear too.

I've seen other positive comments on Tasco scopes but not been able to find a source. I used to have a pair of Tasco binoculars which were pretty good too.

The Weaver 4x38 K4 Japan is excellent value for money and in my eyes the quality has been equivalent to the Leupolds I've had. I also like it can be mounted in low mounts. I've kept a few other fixed mag scopes for the reliability and weight advantages.

Beeman 3x21 short scope
Leupold 2.5x20 ultralight
Tasco Super Sniper (SS) 10x42
Nikko stirling Mountie 4x20 Japan
Nikko stirling Mountie 4x15 Japan (both very lightweight and slim)

I'm still hoping Leupold will bring back entry level models in 4x28 or 4x32 again.
