Now here we have a mk1 BSA meteor that has been in the same house , behind various doors for 65 years.
It had been used for many activities including picture nail tapping in.
It came into my possession because 93 year old Annie Oakley claimed the next doors son had shot her with his airsoft pistol. The police on arrival spoke to Annie in her sitting room , they noticed a bong on the mantle piece and asked her what is was , well 93 year old Annie told them the truth “it’s a vase from the market , it holds flowers you know”
The dutiful police took a note or two and left Annie house.
Annie retold this story to her daughter with a “I can show you the bruise and that bugger is not getting away with it”
The daughter( from now on Calamity Jane )knowing her mother was well capable of a revenge shooting , got old Mrs Oakley to give up the gun and let her take it away.
Calamity Jane looks at the rifle and remembers the halcyon days of the early 60’s when she became a backyard dead eye shooter with the trusty rifle, contacts her friend who says “I know a nugget who will give that a polish up, jimbobjones “
And so I got this Meteor, not to make it pristine but to make it tidy and usable for memories sake (Annie Oakley is not getting it back)

So here it is.

Trigger assembly full of hair dust grime and general grunge needed a full strip and washout, everything had a good collection of rust and grunge but not too bad. The scope that originally came with it (a BSA 2x20) was scratched to heck , hidden in a mass of kitchen sticky stuff , dust ,hair and was missing both what I call ocular end caps. Luck would have it I put the question out to the AGF membership and @Tony Hancock and @gold1640 came to my rescue and provided me with the ocular end caps, so a big thank you chaps to them 👏
A little sanding a touch stain a few coats of True Oil ( gosh was the wood dry) a tad of grease a smidge of spray paint and it was ready to reassemble.

It’s not perfect but it is presentable. Calamity Jane is delighted and Annie Oakley thinks it’s great.
So job done.

Great rescue job - well done !! - got a few myself . Mk1 is my favourite Meteor 👍

The old girl sounds great 👌😃👍
Proper old school northern lass determined to maintain some independence.
Sometimes it’s not about how well it shoots, but about the memories it triggers, well done 👍
Too true, the daughter can’t wait to have a go , I even have some of the original make of pellets that came with it so it will be as they bought it 65 years ago.

I paid £4 for mine in about 1975 from a pawn shop when I was about ten , I still have it but rarely use it these days .The triggers took about 10 pound of pressure and were a nightmare to keep on target till they finally fired .
