Favourite Western

A few copies of Kirk Douglas and Johnny Cash western "A Gunfight" are on eBay at the moment. £3 posted! Such a great movie. Johnny cash is brilliant in this film- two gunfighters duel for money and winner takes all.

Films are just not worth anything. I downsize movies and have one Jewel case with A Gunfight/Valdez is Coming (A favourite Western but have two copies) / The Long Riders/ Lee Marvin In Monte Walsh and Kurt Russell in Tombstone that will be winged to a charity shop soon probably.

Magnificent Seven remake.

It begins with the townsfolk having a meeting in the church. A black guy with a badge wanders into to capture a felon. A rich guy wants to own the whole town. Later on they use dynamite to blow up the bad guys....

It was all going a bit Blazing Saddles to be honest. Not sure if this was intentional or not but I found it distracting.

It had some moments but it didn't work for me. Leaving an entire town in complete ruins and thinking its a victory is verging on pyrrhic.

I didn't like the homage to Steve McQueen's "so far so good" story. Felt cheap. Although Chris Pratt's drifting chancer with slight of hand tricks was quite good. Though his drinking habit and style was very much in the Waco Kid vein.
I liked the Jack Horne mountain man character. Thought he was underwritten and could have done more.

I just cant watch new stuff. The quality of the scripts and the action just isn't up to past era, like 60s/70s.. even the 90s Tombstone. I watched that film once- good but couldn't re watch it. Lancaster in Lawman and 70s westerns like that, you just cant beat them. Or Jeremiah Johnson , Redford was outstanding in that movie. The Indian fighting scenes were amazing. etc.

In case anyone didnt see it, pic below from a few months back was my "Shane" airgun tribute shoot.. with Ryker and Jack Wilson looking out of Grafton's store.. both Ryker and Wilson got taken out in one .25 shot. Bisley Pest at that time probably. You got to have some fun. :)
