Hunting Overwhelming new perm!

years ago pre general licences I used sit near a bare tree in hide and pop out a big owl decoy , they some times bring crows in better than food sources they are attacking. The corvids may well feel safer mocking decoy than landing. etc I am guessing owl decoys still legal under general licence ? Looked on line still sold but none say for shooting?? Shooting sites still selling but no mention of what they can be used for ie just scaring or not. Be interested to know if still legal if so definitely worth a go

Ahhh ok, might have come in useful, you though about going back down that route?
I’ve often thought about FAC again (I had an open cert for years) and still have my 5 gun cabinet but the More I read about the hassle the less I want to. Shotguns are not on my radar ever, way too noisy. My love has always been Airguns

I know what you mean, it’s becoming tedious to say the least

A silenced .410 is an ideal pesting tool, my favourite thing for lamping rabbits. Best from a quad on a stock farm where they’re used to the sound of the bike. But quiet enough to be useful in most situations.

Getting big numbers of corvids with a Sub 12 air rifle is going to be very labour intensive and frustrating I’d suggest.

I like @Dr B ’s spreadsheet suggestion - you could record GL numbers, locations etc on there, too.

Sound advice from our good doctor, sounds like a whopper job, but approached in the right way, it should be fruitful and fun.. just need to find your grove mate👍
Hopefully there won't be any Geordie bikers in it. 😉

Il start by saying I’m not complaining of my recent new permission, I feel like I’ve won the lottery. Im keen to make an impression but for the first time in my shooting career I feel a bit overwhelmed. There’s 3 farms nearly 500acres. All three farms are suffering with covids eating expensive feed. As we all know that walk around with a shovel and they will perch a few feet away, pull out a gun and they all become Exocet missiles!! Tried static hunting in a couple of places but with my limited time off and wanting to show up at all 3 farms on same day finding I’m spreading myself too thin and feel that I’m trying too hard hence not much to show for 5hours today, but I know I won’t get chance to go for over a week. Picture of a hasty hide which was working but couldn’t stay long enough. Really need to do some planning and retire from working 🤣View attachment 686169
Try sticking a few owl decoys out round the area you are shooting, they will soon come to investigate if they are about.

Took everyone s general advice and just spent the morning on 1 farm was very productive. Had a wander away from the farmyard around a cracking 50 acre woodland.
