What is it about replica pistols that really suck!

I genuinely got into this because I had a real interest... Now I realise that everything is overpriced and of poor quality...they all break eventually.....Even the good ones!...
This is true, bought one of them semi auto Co2 jobs, impulse buy , always the worst, bb, sometimes it would not fire a bb, even when fuelled and loaded, otherwise when you tilted it down, a ball would just roll out the end of the barrel, accuracy was terrible, watched a video online and they achieved good accuracy, couldn't hit the proverbial barn door, the trigger pull was measured in tons not pounds, ended up giving it to my son in-law. Crap, for want of a better word .

Having said all this, I have been toying with the idea of getting one of those Dan Wesson Co2 jobs, but was rather put off when I read a review, and it said the 6" barrel was only 2.5" of real rifling , the rest smooth .
Oh, perhaps one day they might build a decent one, that delivers power and accuracy, preferably in .22

How about a .22 Webley Mk VI service revolver .... these are a very good Co2 Replica

Allegedly the most accurate "replicas" are the S&W 586, Beretta 92FS and the CP88. My Webley MKVI is pretty good and very solidly built.

I have a Webley MKVI a Remington cowboy type pistol & a P226 blowback pistol.
I have fired them & they are nice to use. I bought them more for their looks to be honest. The Remington & Webley are revolvers with ratcheting chambers & removable bullets, love the mechanical action. Nearest thing to the real thing I’m probably ever going to own. They are not cheap to buy but I enjoy them so I’m happy.
I'm thinking about a Wembley as my next purchase. More for the look of this iconic classic.

@Hudson, your thinking about buying one of these?

Replicas are made of pot or monkey metal..

The real ones are made of gun metal..

‘Nuff said…..

Oh, my Glock is actually made of several metals, chocolate, glass and playdoh…

You're right, most are made of tat, but not all.
There are any amount of all steel airsoft pistols that will be almost as accurate and powerful as BB guns, and of course, the Baikal Makarov.

I think they stopped using gun metal back in the blunderbuss days 😂

If they weren't made of monkey metal we would probably not be allowed to own them.
The Brocock TAC pistol were outlawed as they could (allegedly) be converted to fire real bullets.
We are allowed to own steel air/co2 pistols - see post 89 immediately above yours.
Die cast zinc alloy is used for only one reason - cheap manufacturing cost.

I had 3 Brocock revolvers that I destroyed back when they were banned and interestingly the frames were made of zinc alloy.
I wouldn't have fired one with a live round in it.

Guilty as charged!
I started oit with airsoft but due to the inaccuracy I moved to 4.5bb airguns. I had 7 aorsoft flocks (fake Glocks) airsoft MP5K-PDW as well as several airsoft longs
I eventually got bored of flushing money down the bog and I've now got a Umarex Glock 17 Gen4 4.5mm bb airgun. It seems well made and so far is handling some hard use well but a matter of time before something gives. I keep it well lubricated and clean, use decent ammo and fingers crossed its going good. I've just bought a Umarex MP5K-PDW 4.5mm bb Whilst I do miss fully auto I'd only ever use 2-3 round burst fire (airsoft) so no big deal to semi auto airgun. It's very accurate given its size and a lot of fun and with the stock fully removed (it has a backplate with slingount for the 'Kurtz' look it is really just a big pistol with a 40 round mag Oh and awaiting a Crosman ST which is on half price sale - £144.99 which is also a pretty flexible airgun as a long gun it's great however with a fully removable stock ard part barrel comes off also making it another big pistol which looks more at home on Star Wars with the Black and White futiristic finish.

I think for me the appeal is getting to shoot stuff I'd otherwise not be able to legally yeah, its not the full caliber or ballistics but its still a lot of fun, there's some great looking replicas in the pics on yhis thread BTW and a lot id live to own or at least shoot. I reckon if you enjoy shooting with them then it's all good. Life's too short as it is not to enjoy yourself and ive lived sjooting since i was 10, some 50 years and one saying I try to live by is " we don't stop playing because we grow old...we grow old because we stop playing..."

Keep on playing.

Plenty of interesting posts. Thank you from someone hoping to buy a Webley vi, or an umarex luger. It's kind of made me question why I want one. The draw for me, is the historical interest. You couldn't give me a modern, super accurate target air pistol. Not interested. But I am big into military history, and will still probably pay £200 for one of these 'overpriced, poor quality' replicas when my licence comes through.

Out of the two choices you have made i personally would opt for the Webley
I have a .22 pellet version which is great and im currently working on converting an airsoft one
to 4.5mm BB also polishing it as im not over keen on the satin black finish ... try the battlefield finish IMO

Yes, me too, it's the historical interest that draws me to these replica's. I buy to admire and collect. I dont have anywhere to fire mine , I cannot simply walk to the woods and shoot tin cans like we could in the 70's. I'm in the process of making a wall display in the spare room for some of my WW2 specimens.

I've never had a problem with the accuracy of any of the pistols I've owned. I also don't expect them to be target pistols because they are not.
If you can't hit a tin can with one your doing something wrong, or maybe standing too far back :-)
Build quality on some can be questionable but others can be great.

What I think sucks are the replicas that have half blowback or sticks mags. If you pick up one of those I can understand why you would be disappointed.
Also the fact that the likes of umarex don't make it clear which version you are buying when they do multiple of the same make and model. (The Glocks for example).
The way they market them is very poor.

I've not shot the Webley but I did used to have a blowback Luger.
The Luger was great fun while it lasted - after about 18 months and about 2000 rounds it decided to go fully auto! I thought I had managed to fix it but the fix only lasted a short time. It was great fun to shoot while it lasted and the toggle action is unique.
Of course you have talk with a dodgy German accent while using it!

Cheers
Don
